Since I'm getting a new iPod for Christmas, I noticed my library has minimal hard rock and metal music, so I need some recommendations on some good bands. Some that I like are:
Anthrax

Alice In Chains

Black Sabbath

Danzig (more-so older stuff)

Deftones

Disturbed

Electric Wizard

Excel

Led Zeppelin

Metallica

Megadeth

The Offspring

Pearl Jam

Rage Against The Machine

Red Hot Chili Peppers (OLD funky metal, can't stand their newer stuff)

Static-X

The Used

AND I was a HUGE Nirvana fan, but then I got kinda bored of them.
Genius recommended me Soundgarden, Powerman 5000 and HELLYEAH, but it also wanted me to buy Avril Lavigne after listening to Aerosmith and at one point said I should listen to Slipknot. :| I also strongly dislike the really deep grunting vocals that some metal bands use or singers that change their tones like 20 times in the same song, I can deal with song to song.

Also, I'm sure I have enough rap/hip-hop but I'm always up for some more. What I like:
2Pac

Automator

A Tribe Called Quest

Beastie Boys

Big L

Blackalicious

C-Rayz Walz

Camp Lo

Company Flow

Cypress Hill

Dark Sun Riders

De La Soul

Dead Prez

Deda

Digable Planets

Digital Underground

Dr. Octagon

EPMD

Eyedea & Abilities

Gang Starr

Ghettosocks

Gravediggaz

Handsome Boy Modeling School

High & Mighty

Insane Poetry

Jedi Mind Tricks

KRS-One

Little Brother

Lords of the Underground

Madvillain

Main Source

Massive Attack (I'm taking wikipedia's info as them being "trip hop")

Masta Ace

Nas

Naughty By Nature

Notorious B.I.G.

O.C.

Outkast

Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth

The Pharcyde ( Drop is probably my favorite music video of all time)

R.A. The Rugged Man

Scarface

UGK

Ultramagnetic MC's

Wu-Tang Clan (and all members)

Z-Ro

I just downloaded four D.I.T.C. albums so I have those to check out.
Also, it would be very nice to provide links of examples or the band/group's best album instead of me having to search around. And don't turn this into some Rap vs. Rock thread, I'd just like some good music to listen to.

I've been listening to a lot of Esoteric lately, they're ******* awesome. If you like Funeral Doom metal and enjoy long songs I definitely think they're worth checking out.

I tend to find the best metal bands generally hail from northern Europe, but I also recommend:

System of a Down, Rammstein, In Flames, Ex Deo, Kataklysm, Dethklok, Slipknot, Static X, Deathstars and maybe Cradle of Filth if you can handle it.

As for hip-hop I'll only listen to Eminem and Hilltop Hoods. So not much help there.
