I have a 10 year old kitty that i love dearly. Ive had her since she was a kitten. My issue here is closed doors. The only door i close is the bedroom door at night when i am sleeping. I dont know if its territorial, or a control thing, but if she sees a closed door, it needs to be open. So she scratches the bottom of the door which is tearing it up, (not declawed, and no i wont declaw her), and is the most annoying thing ever. This had gone on before but she quit doing it, but has started again. :(

I've never really tried anything to get her to stop, other than ignoring her which just makes her scratch more. (Going to try double sided tape tonight). Anyone else have this problem (or other cat problems... feel free to share), and have found a fix?

I also feel...this being OT, that i need to add keeping the door is not an option and neither is declawing her. But i think thats obvious.

well, it just seems like you're going to have to man up and declaw her.

every time it scratchs you kick it, that way it will learn that if it scratches the door it gets a good kick, and its better when ur hiding and then jump out and kick it, that way it will learn that even if your not there, you always are lmaooo xD

Cats are most active during the night if I remember correctly. She probably just wants to be petted and stuff. You know, the usual cat, human relationship thing, (My cats do it to, sometimes to get fed, other times to be affectionate and want to be petted)

I've got a cat like that. If he sees a closed door he sits outside and meows until it gets opened. it's annoying but at least he's not damaging anything.

This is probably the only non-violent way to make her stop.

Put one of those cat scratching mat thingies on the door and she won't mess up the door and you probably won't hear it.

Or like put a doggy ddoor there.
