I'm omitting 1999 because I used that last time, though I don't think I'll use the last year of the previous decade again (all I loved from that year anyway was The Straight Story and Eyes Wide Shut):

Barton Fink

The Big Lebowski

Braindead

Bullets Over Broadway

Dead Man

Edward Scissorhands

End of Evangelion

Fargo

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Goodfellas

Heat

The Iron Giant (holy crap, I just realized this is from 1999...oh well. Better late than never)

JFK
L.A. Confidential

Lone Star

Miller's Crossing

Porco Rosso

The Player

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

The Thin Red Line

Three Colors: Blue

The Truman Show

Unforgiven

Wild at Heart (sue me)

As always, if you disagree with any of these, you are a communist nazi.

I shall not argue with you for the sole reason that you included The Big Lebowski.

I don't need to have Saving Private Ryan. It's a good film, but it's overly sentimental. Stephen Spielberg has done better, and The Thin Red Line was the better film to me.

I Agree The thin red line delves far deeper while Saving Private Ryan, while good is not as engrossing personally but I felt because it was already such an iconic film from the era

btw what about the usual suspects?

Crap, I forgot Crimes and Misdemeanors was released in the nineties!

Mystery Train's on my list. I've loved the Jarmusch films I've watched so far.

Edit: Wait a second, no it wasn't. Like I said, I'm not doing that anymore.

now that i thought about it, saving private ryan definitely deserves to be on that list. the story may not have been great, but you can't deny that the battle scenes were absolutely mind blowing. it was also one of the first action movies to employ a cinema verite style.

I agree, saving private ryan looked nice with all the explosion and battles, but thin red line had much more emotion and character.

Looks like The Thin Red Line vs Saving Private Ryan has polarised peoples opinions. Although I feel Saving Private Ryan is a lot more popular (and often that means bad) It had a much greater effect on me, So much so that I can forgive the fact that Matt Damons teeth are so sparkly white after being in the frontline for so long. I didn't know they had teeth whitening back then.

I think your list is good. and film-guys list is good too.

Home Alone disagrees with you.

Anyway, good list.
I haven't seen all of them, so I can't really disagree with it...but I've been watching at least one film a day recently, and this thread seems like a good guide for movies to look out for.

One of the relative few to which I have cried as well. My first was Aladdin when I was really young, though.

If your username is reference to Andrei Tarkovsky I may have more respect for your taste.

So now we include movies from different decades in "Best Films of the 90s" lists?

I don't see The Godfather or Taxi Driver! PUT THEM IN THERE~
