My computer is getting attack by increasingly annoying virus-protection ads saying my computer is infected. The only thing that my computer has been infected by is the never ending pop up ad.

These bastards (excuse my french) are trying to get me to use some kind of virus protection software which I obprviously don't want. I actually went to the advertised site and it was a simulation of my folders saying that it found over 300 trojans hidden in all my files. This is what it says EVERYTIME I happen to pop up there os it's obviously not true. Another indication of it not being true is that when you try to click on the other folders it pops up a mini download window. So has anyone heard of these guys before? Anyone know how to get rid of this?

and sorry about the "Do Fish get thirsty?" thing. I did this on imageshack

QFT. Download Spybot or Adaware and check for spyware, since you obviously downloaded something that keeps trying to download more stuff.

it's a virus. Look at what the program name is that is popping up these things and search for it on the internet.

So far I got a total of... maybe a half of a useful post. Any of you actually have any positive or helpful input to give? If not, get out.

It's an open forum, I can be as useless as I want to be. Most people here are anyway.

If I were you I'd make sure McAfee is up to date and do a scan.

If that doesn't work you can call them, try a system restore, or reformat.

1# lay off the porn. Only go to trusted sites or visit based on referral.

2# Download Glary Utilities. Its a free all-in-one harddrive cleaner. It may not help you get rid of your virus, but this baby freed up 10 GIGS of space.

EDIT: I lied. Glary Utilities does in fact include a spywar/adware remover. Looks like youre set. Trust me, this program will solve problems you didn't even know you had.
