So just right now he ripped out the ps3 and took it away becuase I have been playing with it too much. He has always done this to me and always says that I am a loser and whatnot. I get straight A's in school and have friends, but I don't do what he wants me to do. He always wants me to be studying non stop, even during my Christmas break and probably even during Christmas. I think he's gone off the deep end, and cannot even let me enjoy the first few days of the break.... should i talk to him or seomthibgn because this has gotten out of control....

I'd try asking him what his problem is, or talking about why he ripped it out. :D

What does he want from you? If you're already getting A's in school then it doesn't sound like you need to do any extra studying. Talk to your mum about it and see if she can have a word with him.

Try talking to a school counselor and see if s/he could talk to your father. At least have someone else there to mediate. If he's angry enough to rip something out, it's hard to tell what's going on in his mind, and what he could do, even without meaning to harm anyone.

I think the question you should be asking is: "Has your dad ever had it?"

most parents have unresonable expectations of their children. You an talk to him, but I don't believe it will be effective at all.

Yeah, why don't you just tell the guy to lay down and let his father trample over the other side of his face?

he should talk to him instead of asking complete strangers if he should talk to his father.

your dad sounds alot like my dad , a father who expects you to get 100% in everything or else youre no use.

I did ask my dad why he's like that, and his reason is that he wants me to avoid the problem he had of not going to university when he was younger (he did his Masters degree when he was 37).

maybe your dad thinks he's doing whats best for you, even so you should talk to both your parents about it, thats what I did, and if your parents arent as stubborn as my parents, it should be ok.

Go to your mother, put on the water works and just question everything about yourself. Make her feel as sorry for you as possible. Say to her the day you graduate you are never coming back home as long as he's in the house and just make up a bunch of stuff that will get you the sympathy vote.

This may not be the most passive response, but my solution would be to confront him. My dad sounds very similar to yours, and without going into to much detail, I had to confront him to make him stop. Just tell your dad that it's your life and he has no right to tell you how to live it. If he gets mad and try's to force you to act the way he wants, stand your ground, this will either force him to back down or make a fool of himself trying to tell you what to do when you won't. Either way you have won.

How old are you if you do not mind me asking. Some parents are prone to overeacting, and it seems your dd wants you to be who he thinks you should be not yorself. I am not going to turn this into a soft support message, but talk to him calmly and try to reason. If he does not listen talk to someone he will listen to.

sounds like your dad is a control freak... Basically you can't deal w/ control freaks. You can either neuter them, or go along for the ride. Most of the time I either neuter them or leave the project. Since he's your dad I'm not sure that's an option.

Take at look at yourself, maybe he is right?, how many hours do you play a day? ... maybe he just wants to spend time with you instead of you gaming whenever possible.

... I'm gonna assume you mean neuter, as in making them realize they need to accept other people's points of view, and not neuter, as in removing their reproductive bits...

I meant neuter as in take away his power/authority. Moving out would probably accomplish this.

Most likely your dad has your best interests at heart. If he wants you to study and do homework, then study and do homework! It won't kill you.

And chances are, you've probably been playing excessively, in which case, your dad is totally justified. Just sayin'.

what about nuking them? can you nuke them?

that usually upsets the other control freaks all across the globe. Even just having a nuke will upset the control freaks. I know I've been trying to make one for years. Each time they go "oh we're gonna stop buying your stuff, and we won't sell to you" They eventually cave in but I still haven't figured out how to make a working nuke yet.
