Just As Clarification; The Church, or atleast the Catholic church, Does not dispute evolution... Except In humans...

I know this thread is On how Humans Came to be but Just saying it before people start saying the church is deaf to science and all that because it isn't :D

We believe Humans are special and were placed on earth specially by god

Its one of those questions that cannot be answered like "If there had to be an intelligent being who created the universe, then what created said being?" You will never get a straight answer, which is why I choose to be an atheist, until I get some good answers to questions like these.

Just pointing this out - I do not want to get into a theological debate, I'm just trying to answer the question of the TC.

Now, I went to a Catholic primay school. I remember my Year 4 teacher being the the religion coordinator for the school. She was teaching the basic notion of evolution when someone asked "but didn't we all come from Adam and Eve?". Her reply was "the Bible is two books, the Old Testament and New Testament. The Old Testament is a book of myth that is used only for stories and is not actually true. God created the world and life on Earth, and all life is equal".

Now obviously those aren't the exact quotes, but that's roughly what was said and basically formed my interpretation of the Bible and creation.

I believe that the majority of people do not understand what is meant by the word "evolution." Charles Darwin's original concept was termed, "descent with modification", and evolution was actually an older word, with a different meaning that had gone out of common usage. Descent with modification is an easy concept to understand: Breed lighter colored pythons with lighter colored pythons and voila, you get "albino pythons". Any change of circumstances, naturally occurring or man-made, that favor certain characteristics of the breeding animals, will result in descent with modification.

I think it is more difficult to explain how single-celled organisms "mutated" to develop, for instance, eyes. Did the optic nerves "evolve" before the eyes? How would something "evolve" to take advantage of sight, when there is nothing to register optically to begin with? I think these are more difficult questions to answer and that we will have a better understanding of SPECIATION as time goes on, but I believe that anyone who thinks "evolution" is a fully realized and explained concept is sadly mistaken.

haha welcome to OT, if your questions are not answered in this topic. please refer to the other 10 religous topics that will pop up in the next 24hrs. enjoy your stay.

but on a serious note... God is just far beyond our understanding as mere mortals, he is capable of incredible things including the creation of the entire world and all that inhabits it. and this was done from dirt, and a rib pulled from the dirt....or something like that.

Evolution is a proven, Christian supported, FACT!
Origin of human beings however, is still debatable

Anyone saying they don't support evolution; either has no idea what it is or simply haven't been keeping up with the current times.

WRONG!!! The bible says that creation is real meaning that god made everyone including humans, but the idea of evolution is that everything evolved from a basic one cell organism.

You don't "believe" in something that has an abundance of reliable, supporting evidence, and instead you go for something that is completely unproven and is made up almost entirely of parables and allegories?

The Bible and evolution doesn't conflict.

In a way they are but in some ways they aren't ;)

The only way they may conflict is the perception of time. Genesis dates the earth 6,000 years where the process of evolution can take millions of years. However, both the scientific community and the religion community accept Evolution as a factual process.

You know why the church accepts evolution? Because it's almost impossible to deny. That's like saying you believe the earth is still flat. Evolution is happening right in front of your face.

It makes a lot of sense from a biblical standpoint that God created species with the ability to genetically adapt to their environment. Isn't that intelligent design? Origin of man is debatable, Micro-evolution is debatable, but the simple process of evolution itself, is completely undeniable.

I agree with you...funny how its easy for some people to believe in something that has never ever been proven and will die for it. I use to be a christian and know how it all goes..BUT even then I had my doubts and today I do not believe in the bible or the magician jesus at all. Believing all of this is just by chance, accident,is more proven then the mess the bible spills..

We did not evolve from monkeys, we only share a common ancestor. It's the reason why you don't see people walking out of the forest saying "Hi, I just evolved."

Well, if we evolved from monkeys, I'm sure we'd have hand-feet like they do. and we don't.... so we never came from no monkeys. I think it has to do with extra terrestrials man, Them aliens. They did it. We're what we are because of them. They found us here, saw we had potential... Mated... and BOOM. here's our screwed up race.

Monkeys and Apes evolved along side us like brother - sister species. We didn't evolve from them like father - son.

That's a really fundamental view, a I don't think most educated religious people actually think like that. I thought it was more of an analogy of sorts.

Natural selection is the mechanism by which evolution occurrs. It refers to thefavorabilityof one adaptation over others, so that gradually most of the population obtains the adaptation. They go hand in hand. And if we didn't alloriginate from a single celled organism, then what did we originatefrom? Are you saying that eukaryotes just spontaniously came into being comepletely independent of prokaryotes?

The process of evolution does not imply that we evolved from single celled organisms.
You guys are confusing the actual process with other theories that depend on evolution, like the origin of man.
