My girlfriends a satanist...

We've been going out for about 8 months now and she finally decided to tell me that shes a satanist, but im an agnostic so i dont really care. I was just wondering if satanism is really how itsportrayed on tv with human sacrifices and all that creepy stuff... or if its more just being extremely egotistic and "being your own god" I just want to understand a satanists view so i dont want religious nuts coming in here telling me to burn her or do anything like that becasue i love her but im just worried...

well the vast majority of the moral and ethical implications of satanism mirror christianity quite closely, except they replace worshipping god with worshipping yourself. So if the satanic bible is about being a self serving ass, then any form of christianity is about being a subservient ass.

Its likely not what you think it is, satanism is NOT like it is portrayied in the media, In truth satanism is more like existentialism (spelling), then an actural religion, so I doubt it as bad as you think, as someone said, she likely thinks she is, because of the shock value, or because she wants to be different.

although, you can claim a religions beliefs but not practice them (i'm a non practicing buddhist for example)

but yeah, satanism definitely doesn't encourage harming yourself or others. in fact it's very pagan in its beliefs of "do whatever you want as long as you don't harm yourself or others"

Real Satanism is more along the lines of individualism (hence why it's called Satanism, as christianity deals with altruism). It has to deal with doing what you believe is right in any given situation, most of all for yourself first and foremost. It also advocates revenge, as it is part of our inherent nature. If someone hits you in anger, instead of turning the other cheek you are supposed to hit back twice as hard. It really is just a very down to earth lifesty1e with some "darker" aspects.

Stupidity is considered a sin, so disobeying the law to get what you want isn't advocated, as spending jail time for a quick benefit would be a stupid move.

It's funny that you mention that actually. Leveyan satanism its somewhat eschewed by more modern theistic satanists even though it is the basis for the current church of satan. the ideals of self indulgence and eye for an eye is really taken out of context by most people. all that really suggests is that you should enjoy life to its fullest (as opposed to self deprivation) and to stick up for yourself and not let people take advantage of you. most satanists will tell you that LeVeyan satanism does encourage somewhat self destructive habits that the church rarely if ever encourages or endorses any longer and they directly contradict the dogmatic pursuit of knowledge. So while in the past those may have been the standards, they aren't considered much any more.

Theistic satanism or atheistic satanist? Theistic = Belief in Lucifer as your master Atheistic = there is no 'god', god is just the being who has most control in your life which is obviously yourself The atheistic way is how a lot of people act anyway, personally i find the atheistic Satanist way of life much more applicable then any other religion, it's basically indulge in life as long as you don't hurt anything else in the process.markop2003

theistic satanism is a grey one too :P because its all on interpretation. theistic satanism is more so a belief that satan is a being who imparts knowledge and that knowledge is power. so in a round about way satan = master, but more so because of the implication that it is the source of knowledge.
