Where were you 7 years ago? Or any of the subsequent 9/11s, for that matter.

Never was affected by it when I was younger, being Canadian I have very little emotional attachment to the event given it's relative smallness to the rest of the world.

It was still awful though.

I was watching videos on youtube and it's hard to watch and hear some of the stuff that was going on, like the man who was on the phone with an operator and the tower collapsing while he was still on the phone :(

I'm with you.

not to be ignorant or anything, but i have seen countless movies and references and documentaries about it. These things happen occasionally in OTHER countries and we don't care , so (because i'm Australian) i'm not going to give 9/11 any extra special attention that everyone is giving it.

Occasionally, when I feel like it. But South Park is too dirty for my tastes most of my time anyway.

I am sorry, but I disagree. Many Americans have put 9/11 in the back of thier selfish little minds. While I understand that it is in good health to "move on", I think it is very important to remind people that this did happen and can happen again.

I just thank god that we have been safe for the last 7 years.

Another point, this was not just a US tragedy, but a worldwide one. A great percentage of the dead were from other countries and were of many nationalities.

I remember when I was younger and it first happened, I acted sad but I didn't really understand what had happened. I think I was in sixth grade. And then my junior year of high school, we watched a documentary about it in my U.S. History class and I was choked up. It didn't make a difference to me where it had happened, I finally saw what a terrible thing had happened to thousands of innocent people. It was an intense experience and I just kept making it worse and worse by remembering things like coming home from school to see my mom crying and watching the news. I can't watch those videos now, I know they'll make me cry.

i have to agree with you there, some people act like the collapse of the towers was the worst thing that ever happpened when it reallyv sits quite low on the deathtoll rankings

I suppose the difference is there's just so much footage of it which makes it easier for people to empathise with the victims. Also the fact that it happened in a western country - a place that is meant to be secure and safe.

Exactly, because you should only give a damn about things that happen in your own country. See, we don't care about all the bad in your country because it doesn't effect us, so how can you not care about what happens in our country. .....Wait...what?

well actually there have been many attacks on Western Nations, it was the first attack on American soil thats why its big (well unless you count pearl harbour). I see it but seeing as i'm Australian i don't have a large attachment to it that much although i do feel very sorry for all those who lost their lives.

I was watching the History channel last night and they aired a special called "102 Minutes that Changed America". I had obviously known and seen 9/11 footage on TV before but compared to what I saw on that show it was nothing. The whole show lasted two hours with 1 hour and 41 minutes dedicated to uninterrupted raw amateur footage from different viewpoints and 911 recordings. Tragedies happen like this all around the world but you never really get used to seeing people dying. I was only 10 when 9/11 happened so I felt like I owed to myself to see what really happened rather than the same old re-run newsfootage every anniversary of the tragedy. To say the least I felt sick to my stomach the entire time. It felt more personal than it ever had felt before and some of the footage was quite disturbing. If I am not mistaken there is one piece of footage from inside one of the towers. The reason I think that is because the camera seems to be on a helmet and the footage is completely black except for what appears to be head-lamps shining through smoke. I won't forget the sounds of people screaming and banging on the doors desperately seeking help (again I don't know where this was taking place but the sounds were muffled like they were coming from a floor above the camera in an office building). I think some people owe it to themselves to watch this and see what really happened.

That's fair enough, sir. Strangely enough I wasn't that bothered by it at the time (though I was only 15). I guess I started to get interested in it after the 7/7 bombings in London (I'm from england, btw :P). My friend works in London and uses the tube a lot, and I remember being really worried about him. It made me care about 9/11 a hell of a lot more.

Are you kidding me dude? Of course we will remember it. It is up there with Pearl Harbor and the assassination of JFK. Pretty much everyone in the US (don't know about other nations) will remember exactly where they were and what they were doing at that time.

I doubt that it is even possible to stop these things from happening again. If anything we have just given them more reason to hate. I know there was nothing we could do but retaliate but it always felt like we were baited into going into there territory.
