Thoughts?
Hes been playing music for around 30 years (my teacher, not white) and yesterday when we were playing he said he wasnt that great. I was kind of shocked since I see nothing but love for him, and I personally think is a great guitarist (see: Any The Raconteurs song or Treat Me Like Your Mother, Or Icky Thump, or Seven Nation Army)
Note: he only mentioned him has a guitarist, not a song writer, pianist, or singer, or drummer.

What's to think? He gave his opinion on Jack White's guitar-playing skills. You can absolutely have a different opinion, but that doesn't really have anything to do with anything.
So...let me summarize what I believe is the problem: You think that Jack White is an excellent guitarist, but your teacher thinks that Jack White is merely an "okay" guitarist. And this bothers you because now you feel like a 30-year-long guitarist has totally invalidated your opinions as crap. Either that, or you KNOW that he's full of crap when he/she says that Jack White is merely "okay", and you are therefore starting to question if that person is qualified to actually be in a position to teach you.
Have I at least come close to identifying the "problem"? Is it actually the case that the "problem" is either the fact that you feel like your teacher just insulted your personal taste in music, OR that you just determined that your teacher doesn't know **** about music?
If either of those basicallysums up the "problem", then my advice is for you to just get thicker skin. You might think he's absolutely 100% wrong on that opinion. But START by not seeing it as a personal attack, and START by recognizing that being wrong on this one particular thing doesn't make your teacher and idiot. Start out that way, even if you KNOW that Jack White is the best guitarist who ever lived.
And once you've come to terms with that, then you can maybe debate with him about whether or not Jack White is an exceptional guitarist. But that comes secondary to simply getting thicker skin. If you start doing any kind of art, just about the FIRST thing you're gonna hear is that you don't know ****, and that you wouldn't know quality if it walked up to you and kicked you in the face. For the moment, let's suppose that your teacher DID simply make that comment because he thought his students would take it as a personal insult to their artistic sensibilities. Even if he DID totally and deliberately do that ****, you've gotta learn to NOT be bothered by that kind of ****. Because that's gonna happen if you go into the arts. You ARE going to get emotionally kicked, punched, and beaten. But you're gonna have to ****ing deal with it. Take it personally if that gives you a better appreciation of music. DON'T take it personally if you think that your teacher is just a "troll". And once you've become comfortable with that, then you can roll with the punches and talk about art on a more meaningful level. But you HAVE to go beyond that.
