Is there any way you can restore the firmware?Thorpe89
That's one way of fixing it, but it would require that his music be backed up before restoring, because it will wipe the hard drive clean.

Basically, what you'll have to do is backup the music folders onto your PC from the iPod, because you will need to restore the firmware... The link will explain everything. It has happened to me before... Doing this process will take some time, but it's not hard. Hope it helps. :)

If you had your music on your iPod, wouldn't you have just kept it on your computer also when copying it over?Thorpe89
When I had this problem before, I restored my iPod, and iTunes would only take songs from my iPod and update the library based on what was on my iPod. Obviously there was nothing on my iPod, and if iTunes were to copy what was on it, it would just wipe out the library I had on the PC. When that happened, I basically had to start my music collection all over again because of that.
I don't know if this is the way iTunes still is; this was years ago.
