a few of you may remember me getting a chinchilla a few weeks back. Well, tonight, he died of unknown causes. We noticed he was acting differently today, and when I was handling him tonight, he was a little lethargic. He was on my lap, resting, while I typed at the computer, and then... when I went to put him in his cage he was very limp. He was still breathing and moving a little, but very unresponsive.
We looked up some emergency care tips for him, and did what we could. We thought he may have overheated on my lap, but... we tried cooling him down, and it didn't get better. He moved around for a while, and then stopped moving and just laid down.
Before he died, he started gasping for air, and squeeking with every breath the most adorable yet pathetic squeeks. He did that for about a minute, and then went silent.
Does anyone have any idea why he died so suddenly? We noticed him acting a little different the past days, a little less active and more sleepy, very sleepy indeed... and then tonight he died as I described.
I really just want to know what happened, does anyone here have an idea? Just to give me some peace of mind? I remember some of you being familiar with chinchillas so that's why I ask.
Sad. I have very little expierince wtih chinchillas. I woudl ahve the vet inspect the body if you want to find out what happened. So if thsi sounds harsh but freeze the body chinchilla fur is worth money. Too bad your pet died. I was very, very sad when we put my dog down.
It may of had a sickness when it was born I rember I saw a kitten that was born with a weak leg and lung's and it died a few week's later it could of just been when it was born no need blaming your self for somthing nature has done it's ok doe because your little doggy is now very happy and he will always be with you :D but why must the cute and young die young! :cry:

I remember you making a thread about you getting the little guy and I was so glad for you, and then geezer said to get it a mate, etc etc. So sorry to hear about your loss.

:( I'm really sorry to hear this. I know you were excited to have this thing as a pet. And for those who've made callous remarks about making clothing out of it, get some sensitivity.
