At least for our year (2011) though, due to budget cuts, the year of 2011 is only allowed 3 years of graduation for a deploma (compared to 4 years before), and this only happens to our year only, since the sophomores and freshmen are required for 4 years of math.

But now to the question, should I bother with math class next year? I mean it'll relieve the stress I've been through these 3 years :P
Are there any disadvantages to just dropping math out of my schedule?

I think it helps to take one anyways..Just take a lower one if you need to. For example: if it was choosing between AP Calc or normal Calc, atleast take the normal Calc so you will have some knowledge on the subject for college.

Well if you are planning on going to college, you might want to consider takinga class that the college requires you to take. Im assuming classes are free in your high school, they are not free in college.....but if you have the means to pay for your college classes, skip it in high school (classes in college are a lot shorter)

When you say no to math, you say no to a crapload of jobs that require math.

And those jobs pay well. Quite well indeed.

Oh, those are called AP classes, a college level course accompanied with an AP test to say if you got the college credit or not, although I can apply for those math classes (AP Calc AB) I'm going to avoid those like the plague because after the current AP's i'm taking (US History, Java)... yeah, I don't want that next year :P

Wait you don't know GridWorld at all? There are 5 questions from the case studies ever year, that's 5/40 questions right there. And they expect you to know the case studies really good.

Yeah... not really, my teacher is going over gridworld with us, and i sorta get it. For a problem its usually about overriding the methods that it had by default, hmm you think you can help me in java since my test is about in 2 weeks (May 5th)

12th grade math is already optional here, unless people need credits or to get a math 12 for what job they want, most people don't bother. If you'll need it for whatever career or university you want, take it.

Go for it! Math is a challenging, worthwhile field of study. But I'm biased, as I'm a graduate student in Mathematics. :)

I personally don't think I will take math if I can, and if you don't like also, then don't do it. Do what you want, and you will work better that way.

To be honest, I think you should take it. I should also mention that I am terrible at math, and if I were in your position I wouldn't take the math. But, I think you should take it, because people change their minds about what they want to be when they grow up. Like me, for example, I always hated math, but now I want to major in science so I need math and deeply regret not trying harder in it. So, I'd say you should take it just in case.

This. I didn't take math my senior year, and my majors didn't require anything outside of basic math classes. If you plan on going into a field that has nothing or little to do with math, knock yourself out and take a shop class or something instead.

I only had to take 2 years and it did not matter what level.

Since my math skills sucked bad in middle school I had to start and general math and end with pre-algebra. In hindsight I should have taken Algebra 1 and 2 my Junior and Senior years because taking 2 years of algebra in college was kinda crappy sinced I had to forgo other classes that I needed to take the same term.

However I found learning the math in college to be way easier then learning any math in high school. I guess thats why college instructors do what they do and high school teachers are pretty much just those who were not good enough to be instructors.

I've found that I don't use any math past what I learned in about 8th grade. But it's really up to you.

Take all the maths leading up to Calc. That should be good since you probably won't be getting a job relating to heavy math such as a programmer, engineer, physicist, mathematician, astronomer, etc...

Ahh, I like math but I really can't see myself going for a PhD. I'm probably going to be trying for a PhD in Economics after I graduate from college, though. How's math graduate studies going/where are you studying?

The following only applies if you're going to college. If your next math course is Calculus, then I suggest you take it and get it out of the way. I'm assuming pretty much every last major requires you to take Calc 1, so it'll be good to at least get some exposure to it. Your high school GPA is pretty much set anyway, so it won't affect you very much if you don't do well. If you haven't finished Pre-Calc/Trigonometry, then I HIGHLY suggest that you take it. You'll start college behind the norm otherwise, especially if you go into a math/science/engineering major. Higher level education is in a terrible state right now; it's really difficult to get into classes these days.

Depends on what you're going to major in in college, and how many years of math your college requires. Mine required four. But I also got over a 24 on the math ACT, which means that I can opt out of math if my major doesn't require it in college.

I'm majoring in BFA Musical Theatre. No math for me :D

You should take AP Stat, Clac, or College Algebra. If your really don't want to take a AP class then take an easier math class. Liberal Arts or Advanced Topics in Math are the other choices at my school. Those aren't hard classes and it keeps Math fresh in your brain so you don't jump into college rusty.

I highly recommend it. Math was optional for me for my Junior and Senior year, and consequently I chose to take art cIasses instead. Big mistake. I have had a hell of a time passing college level math cIasses, and I regret not learning more when I could.
