I was joking but it was mostly due to that last comment (the popular one) considering those bands (except a few) are actually fairly popular.

i only have a couple bands that have changed my life. so im going to post those, instead of just posting one band that changed my life, then 19 favorite bands.

Disturbed. got me into music of my own. before that, i praised everything rap and just went with the flow. never really getting into a specific singer/band. when i heard "Inside the Fire" by Disturbed, i liked it and decided to do something ive never done before; look into the artist and listen to more of their songs. it was then that i started really appreciating music. Disturbed opened up the rock world to me and i love it. much better than the rap i was listening to(not bashing rap, i still like rap to an extent). in a sense, Disturbed was my gateway to music.

Tool. Such deep lyrics. really made me reflect alot on my life, and let me push away some of my more bad qaulities. just an overall amazing band. i spent many a night(not always sober) just listening and enjoying Maynards music. Tool helped me find myself.

Hollywood Undead. Rap/Rock fusion at its best. i absolutely love their sound. first song i heard was "Dead in Ditches". after i heard that song, i instantly fell in love with them. though at the time, they only had like 3 songs out. so i waited for a couple years until they finally released Swan Songs and that really cemented my fanship. SS is amazing. i love their rap/rock fusion. they do it perfectly. while some of the songs are party songs, they do have some good deep songs as well. Then fast forward a couple years to American Tragedy. absolutely love the New album. they lost one of the founding members, but his replacement is imo, better and fits the bands sound better. Hollywood Undead, is the first band that one song got me hooked. also the first band that i love every song they have made so far. Truly my all time favorite band.

forgot two, but they are not as lifechanging as the others.

Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. both very great pop artists. kept me from outright dissing pop music, and broadened my horizons.

20?! Alright... No specific order except for number 1.

1. Devin motherfreakin' Townsend

2. Megadeth

3. Brian Eno

4. Pink Floyd

5. Tool

6. Frank Zappa

7. Miles Davis

8. Dimmu Borgir

9. Howard Shore (specifically the music from The Lord of the Rings)

10. Black Sabbath (inspired me to become a guitarist)

11. Grateful Dead & Jerry Garcia Band!!!

12. Death

13. Alcest

14. Allan Holdsworth

15. Enya

16. Jason Becker

17. Bill Frisell

18. Meshuggah

19. Michael Hedges

20. Paul Horn

Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. both very great pop artists. kept me from outright dissing pop music, and broadened my horizons.

Probably two of the most talented modern pop artists. I know I could get raped for saying that but Lady Gaga had extreme talent before she sold herself to the corporate machine. She knows how to make music but she also knows how to make it sellable.

Definitely not 20, but I can trace my maturity and musical awakening with the artists I listened too.

5th grade-- New Found Glory, Good Charlotte

7th grade-- Green Day (slightly better punk)

Freshmen Year-- Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith

Sophomore year-- Radiohead+Mile Davis (suddenly I get real into music around this point)

Junior Year--Sonic Youth, Pavement, some post rock like GY!BE

Senior Year-- Experimental, avant noise and ambient groups. Lots more jazz.

20?! How the hell can that many change your life? I'm just gonna list Metallica because they started me on the road to metal.
