Changes with time. Right now?
Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained)
Christopher Nolan (Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar)
The Russo Brothers (Captain America movies)
Mines are:
Steven Spielberg. He hasn't done anything that left me raving about him lately, but Spielberg is just a fantastic director. I'd be remiss to not include him when a few of his films rank high in my all time list (Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park.)
Christopher Nolan has done some of my favorite films in the last number of years with The Prestige, The Dark Knight Trilogy, and Inception. He has his failings but I have so far not been disappointed with his work.
Taika Waititi. I've only seen two of his movies, both being last year but both being among my favorites of the year. What We Do in the Shadows was terrific fun, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople was at the top of my list. I don't know if he'll stay here for long, but I'm okay with bringing a wildcard to my list.
I watch a lot of movies but I never really take on who the director is so it's hard for me to answer.
Recently I've liked a lot of m.night shally films, he's been on a run of hits without any terrible misses.
Devil, the visit, after earth (meh) and split were all pretty good.
It changes all the time but generally I like all of Jason Reitman , Edgar Wright and David Fincher movies. :)
But I also love Spielberg, Scorsese and Stanley Krubik.
Honorable mention: Peter Jackson (his early director years... "Brain Dead"/'Bad Taste" anyone?).
