I'd have to say that Nevermind is vastly overrated, if hugely influential. What about yourselves?

While I like the album, I feel Dark Side of the Moon probably receives too much praise. I feel like I cannot enter any clothing store without seeing some garment bearing the logo of that album.

I'd say most albums by Nirvana are vastly overrated, as is the band itself. Even the grunge movement itself is hugely overrated, yet nonetheless influential.

Master Of Puppets. Its massively overrated.Ride The Lightning is miles better than it.

I'd also agree with Dark Side of the Moon somewhat. And Nevermind... Bleach is far better than Nevermind.

Pet Sounds (The Beach Boys) I kept hearing people say how great it was (several people told me it was one of the best albums of all time), and Rolling Stone ranks it as the second best album of all time. I had never really liked The Beach Boys, but I decided to give it a go, since so many people were saying great things about it. I didn't like it at all. I don't see why so many people like it. Oh well...

somehow i knew someone was gonna say master of puppets. i guess someone needs to feel individualistic and hip by demonizing something else everyone likes (kinda like those people who say final fantasy 7 is terrible)

being a music afficianado i can't really find something thats THAT overrated (aside from bands) i'm not terribly fond of some albums but i can appreciate the musicianship inherently in them.

If it's something that is loved by millions of people who am I to say their oppinion is wrong. I refuse to jump on that bandwagon..........unless we are speaking of Soljia Boy I will make an exception for that one.

When I say overrated, I really don't mean to say the way most people feel about it is wrong; I'm more or less saying that I just don't feel the way they do. People cannot have an incorrect opinion.

Eh, I never really liked Master of Puppets, or Metallica in general:|

Besides, saying people who disagree with you "[need] to feel individualistic and hip by demonizing something else everyone likes" is kind of a douchy thing to say... especially because it's usually not true.

If anything albums like The Fragile are underrated. It is a difficult album to get into, and so many critical opinions at the time, and even today by naysayers are the product of not having enough time to get to grips with the material.

As for the cult following, see what we are like on the nin.com forums. All gushy, and it is all down to mainly one thing. The effect of the music in our lives.

Anyway, in answer to the overall question "Unknown Pleasures" gets my space. Not because it is a bad album, I love it... but I find it takes the glory away from, what is in my mind, the superior "Closer".

Yeah, it is without a doubt the best biopic of Joy Division that could have been made, and the black and white filming suits it really brilliantly. The ending, even though you know how it ends, is genuinely moving.

I mean don't get me wrong. I LOVE NIN! I mean I love what he's done for music, the idustrial genre & his innovations that made us rethink music in such a short time.

I love how when his record label screwed he fans over he told them feel free to pirate his music. I love that set up a remix site for us to take his music and re-engineer it how we feel. He's a great man but I don't think it's enough for people bow at his feet like they do. You samwel_X is how I picture a fan of NIN would be :)

Ooh, ooh...And Justice For All by Metallica. I can't stand any songs on that album except maybe the title track, and I sorta like the acoustic parts on One, but...the rest is all...ugh, I hate it. And everyone's all "ZOMG DYER'S EVE!!!!111!!"...=/

i may be wrong but it seems like anything that has to do with metalica is relevantly popular like i said i may be wrong seeing how i dont know much about metalica i dont want to speak from a ignorant point of view.

i guess everything ive experienced with the band i dont like and i feel like everyone else is obsessed with them.

It's certainly my favorite, but mostly through what it means to me.

I'd have to say Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, and Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division. Both are great albums but the number of people that absolutely worship them is insane.

The Wall, by Pink Floyd. It doesn't need to be on two discs, it's not awe-inspiring in its concept and they return to the same riff over and over and over again.

I think Pet Sounds gets all the credit it deserves. It's a pop master piece! My vote for overrated goes to Rubber Soul. As a big Beatles fan, I still love the album, but it features a terrible closing song, Girl is just average, and The Word comes off as a bit cheesy and is done much better as "All You Need is Love". The album without these songs and replaced with the singles Rain and Paperback Writer would make it their best album by far. Sadly though, these songs put a stain on the album, especially Run For Your Life, which could possibly be their worst song ever. No one seems to ever point out those shortcomings.

I'm going to 5th this statement. I somewhat like it, but it's praised way to much.
