There is no one else that can match him lyrically or flow wise. All you need to realize it, is to listen to this song( not even his best album): LINK or his great old school track: One of his Greatest

Some of his greatest quotes:

"This rhythmatic explosion, is what your frame of mind has chosen
I'll leave your brain stimulated, n***** is frozen
Speak with criminal slang, begin like a violin
End like Leviathan, it's deep well let me try again
Wisdom be leakin out my grapefruit troop
I dominate break loops, givin mics men-e-straul cycles
Street's disciple, I rock beats that's mega trifle"

"Diamonds are blindin, I never make the same mistakes
Movin with a change of pace, lighter load, see now the king is straight
Swellin my melon cause none of these n***** real
Heard he was, tellin police, how can a kingpin squeal?
This is crazy, I'm on the right track I'm finally found
You need some soul searchin, the time is now"
All I need is one mic"

"That's why the gangsta rhymers ain't inspired
Heinous crimes help record sales more than creative lines
And I don't wanna keep bringing up the greater times
But I'm a dreamer nostalgic with the state of mind
The past the past enough of it, aight then

But nothing gives me chills like Douglas and Tyson

Or Mike when his talk was live

Or when he first did the moon walk on Motown 25"

"People fear what they don't understand, hate what they can't conquer
Guess it's just the fury of man
Became a monster, on top of the world, never fallin
I'm as real as they come, from day one, forever ballin"

I think you need to realise that someones favourite artist is up to them, I personally rate Lupe Fiasco above Nas, not saying Nas is bad, just like Lupe more

There is no GOAT.Music is art and art is subjetive.

I appreciate Nas's skills, but I dont enjoy his music. There are A LOT of other rappers I'd prefer to listen to than Nas.

Where do you live in which there are no goats?

Not a giant fan of Nas. I can dig his stuff from time to time, but it's not something that I bump on a regular basis.

He's not bad, but I've always thought he was a bit overrated. I did enjoy Hip Hop Is Dead though.

I think Nas is one of the best but he's not the best. IMO. There are so many rappers out there on par and better than him like Common, Pharoe Monach, Raekwon, Immortal Technique, MF Doom, Ghostface Killah, Black Thought. I could go on forever. I could even list a song by everyone of those rappers which is better than Nas - One Mic but I can't be bothered.

They might shine in a few tracks but none of them have influenced hip hop in such a way or stayed consistent and relevant through out many years (20+)

He's obviously one of the greats. When I first got into hip-hop, he was easily my favorite and I bumped him constantly. He's still one of my faves, but I only play Illmatic consistently. Nice non-Illmatic choices TC, Can't Forget About You is very underrated. My favorite Nas songs not on Illmatic are Nas Is Like and Purple. Big L is my favorite overall.

um yeah...is that a serious question? From Illmattic to Hiphop is Dead? Influencing rappers like JayZ (dead presidents), Jay Cole, Drake, Jay Electronica, Eminem ranked him above himeself.....

He's great but I think his 'greatness' relies too much on Illmatic and not enough on the rest of his career. Personally I think Ice Cube is the greatest rapper of all time.

Well if you judge Nas purely on Illmatic alone you could make a good case. His other albums though are very inconsistent and range from awful to great. Most people don't even feel that Nas has a 2nd cIassic album, it really depends on how you feel about albums like It Was Written and Stillmatic. It was Written was considered a flop when it came out, and while I don't necessarily think it's that bad looking back (it has some great songs), I guess I can understand those feelings coming off the heels of Illmatic. Oddly enough his 2nd best album in my books is the Lost Tapes which is nothing more than a compilation of old unreleased tracks. But it does help Nas' case that he has one of the greatest unreleased catalogues among rappers.

I'd put rappers like Pharoahe Monch and Aceyalone near the top of my list. The first 3 Organized Konfusion albums and Internal Affairs are incredible and the same goes for the early FreestyIe Fellowship albums and Acey's first two solo albums.

My personal favorite is Andre 3000 though. Huge fan of him SPCM through Stankonia. Wish he would rap more often.

But I mean you could make valid cases for rappers like Kool G Rap, Rakim, Kool Keith, Chuck D, Scarface, Lord Finesse, Bun B, Ghostface, Biggie, Jay-Z, Tupac to rappers like MF Doom to even more so regional rappers like E-40, Andre Nickatina and Mac Dre. There's no clear cut choice.

I don't put anyone as the single Greatest of All-Time, but Nas is somewhere up there. It's far too easy to want to sound well-informed and name the short list of artist I like more than Nas, or artist I listen to more than Nas, but songs like "If I World the World" are not only genius, but timeless. I feel as though Nas is taken for granted nowadays when we should be happy his influence has helped keep some of the new kids (i.e J.Cole) on their toes and at their best.

Hip Hop Is Dead is his best album IMO. I never could understand why people lavish so much praise on Illmatic. It's good, but nothing special, to me at least.

I believe he is one of the best and is my personal favorite of all-time. His content and how he delivers his lyrics is perfect, but the content is what I love. He discusses a lot of important issues, unlike any well-known rapper in today's music. However, there are some other rappers that I consider on his level as well and that I have know problem recognizing as an all-time great.

Nas is definately one of the best pure rappers. The guy says some crazy **** and if my life depended onhaving to pick someone to out-rap someone else, I would take nas over 99% of all other rappers. But I like other rappers more than him. Case in point: your favorite rappper isn't always the best. (I'm looking at you Li'l Wayne and Eminem fans)

Nas is a legend and he's one of the greatest and best. I could see an argument for him being the best because of his lyrical ability, but there's more that goes into greatness than just lyricaal ability. Nas's albums are very hit or miss and even the ones that are on point typically aren't great. He doesn't have the greatest catalog of albums or singles so I can't see how he oculd be the greatest. He's a great lyricist but he doesn't parlay that into great albums and songs enough to warrant being called the g.o.a.t.

In short, Nas skills are top notch but his catalog is no where near great enough to be the g.o.a.t.

Well, here's the controversial music video for Nas' "Hate Me Now" whose parts are reminiscent of the Stations of the Cross on Fridays of Lent. BTW, Puff Daddy (a Roman Catholic) said he wanted his crucifixion scene excised from the video, but the wrong edit of the video was broadcast on MTV's "TRL" and caused a scene with Puffy and Nas' manager Steve Stoute, according to Wikipedia and Rolling Stone.

Joe Budden is better, among many others as well. There is no denying he is one of the best, in the top 10 for sure, but not the best.

I love Nas. He is one of the greatest of all time but not the best. To me he is third on my list behind the two greats Tupac and Biggie. Oh and TC, I love that song, I'm jamming to it right now.

I'm got going to declare an official greatest rapper of all time, but Andre 3000 is my personal greatest. Some of his latest verses can be sort of underwhelming, but he never spit a bad verse on the original 4 Outkast albums. Also, has has more variety in is flows than any of the rappers mentioned in this thread.

Nas is definitely one of the greatest MCs, but his beat selection can be questionable.
