SomeCanadian stereotypes I've heard are:
You are ALL hocky fanatics. Not a bad thing. I love hocky, but the stereotype is that EVERY last one of you is a hocky freak.
You are rediculously socialist. I know that your govt. is socialist, but the stereotype is that you are borderline Marxist.
You all say eh' after every sentence.
Wslacker
Well, the first rumor is true, except in Sask as they don't have an NHL team, so they root for the Roughriders, a football team. But still expected there, that if your provincial/city team in on CBC, you have at least one TV/Radio tuned to it and watch/listen. Doesn't matter if your a farmer, plumber, CEO or an actor or an artist. You watch the Game or else...
I've never thought of us as socialist before really. We have private health care, private schools, private insurance, private everything. The only thing is we have basic services beneath those for those who can't afford to pay the high price. The rich up here still have it much, much better off then the poor. The only real diff is that the poor here, aren't quite as bad off as they are in the states.
For the third, eh is more of a maritime thing. Not used as much in the central and western provinces. But it is a bit. In case your wondering, eh basic means "right?". It's used when you want confirmation of what you just said. "I feel this raod is icy, do you agree with me?" and "This road is icy, eh?" mean basically the same thing.
