So I just decided to pop in an episode of The Blue Planet, and I realized that I need to watch more good documentaries. Specifically nature and science documentaries, because that stuff is great. The only problem is that most of the ones I see tend to be too dumbed down. I don't actually learn anything from them, I basically just end up watching cool footage of animals.

So...does anyone else here like watching nature and science documentaries? Any good suggestions on something for me to check out? Keep in mind, please nothing dumber than "The Blue Planet" or "Planet Earth". And if you're suggesting a documentary that has anything to do with astronomy, please nothing more than 5 years old.

Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman, and Into the Universe with Steven Hawkings are both good.

The Universe is a good show on History, on Netflix there is an HD series on National Parks that's pretty nice.

Wonders of the Solar System. It's a BBC documentary series so I guess the availability will vary depending on where you are.

If you like geology and physical sciences, then How The Earth Was Made is a great show, very informative. I also like anything by Nova. My girlfriend just mentioned Isabella Rossolini's animal breeding show: Green Porno. Very funny, yet, very educational.

I'm a big fan of the Discovery Network shows, mostly on Science Channel though, like Universe (got the blu-ray of seasons 1-3 cheaply at Costco, love them), I like Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman, DVR that every week, they replay a lot of these other various shows, I don't know any specific ones in particular but they're always so interesting, I just like anything dealing with Cosmology, Theoretical Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Space, etc. After a while though this stuff just seems recycled even if you're watching something you've never seen before. You can only hear the layman's explanation to String Theory so much before they keep recycling it, doesn't matter if it's Brian Greene or Michio Kaku explaining it.

I love these documentaries also. I mainly watch science/universe shows. My favourite is probably "universe" lol.
