I'm going to college and don't know which one to get.
Note: If you can, plz give some pros and cons to getting one of the two.

I hope you're kidding. Avast free for virus. You're safe. You are not safe from viruses, you are acutally more vulnerable, there are just less of them for you. Your bloated OS is not faster. He can play games. He has a faster hard drive than you, who cares about boot times? Open office.
A pc is superior just make sure it is at least decent and not some trashy budget computer from Dell or anything of that sort. Trust me when I first got my computer which is a Dell Dimension 3000 I had to upgrade the video card and the RAM to 2 gigs just to get it running at a normal speed for everything that I do.
I've always prefered Mac's to PC's. PC's crash to oftencan get Viruses pretty damn easy and are just kinda slow. Mac's although they can't play as many games, (Which you shouldn't be playing anyway in College) they are faster, Near-Virus free, and very rarely crash. And if you have the extra cash, its almost worth it just because of how much prettier they look =|cryptosopoidiumits pretty humorous to hear someone on a gaming site say you shouldnt be playing games in college lol and if your not stupid about surfing the internet its easy to avoid viruses. also they arent slow at all...unless you have bad hardware.

All these issues that you listed about the PC are avoidable.
PC:
Much more variety (both software and hardware)
Upgradeable hardware
Much cheaper
Plays games
Mac:
Solid OS (even though I can't stand it)
Supposedly doesn't have as many problems as a Windows-based PC

First of all, who the hell buys anti-virus software? There's free (and legal) alternatives on the internet, and they usually work a lot better than the crap you pay for.
Second, my family's desktop has lasted 8 years now, with 1 upgrade. We bought it for $700 8 years ago, and 2 years ago, I added 2 GB of RAM for $120. It's not as fast as a new machine, but it's still solid. Never had to format and reinstall, never blue-screened, and has only had 1 virus that I can remember (removed in minutes).
Also, I think you aren't being entirely trutheful with the XPS thing. I have one and it boots up in 15 seconds flat. ;)
No offense, but I hate when people offer up these questions, and they give us nothing to go on. Considering we do not know what you'll use it for, you will only get a slew of biased answers.
If you have the money, the Mac is a decent alternative.
You can buy a more powerful PC with another harddrive and run BOTH operating systems for half the price of a regular mac.......

they are avoidable.right.but why should i have to do this when i can go get a mac and not have to??were in off topic so talking about games shouldnt be an issue....you should be studying anyway.its funny that i can run autodesk on my mac better then any pc in my engineering graphics class.tbh i dont care if i get flamed for likeing a mac better then a pc. And starwars junky why should i have to worry about viruses when i can get a mac and do whatever i want and not worry? This is not the place to ask that question. Almost everyone here hates Macs for no good reason. Don't base your decision on anything you read here. Research the products yourself. Go to Best Buy or something, play around with the display models, and decide which one you like better.RyeferdI agree with you 100%.
http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/Popular_Mechanics_Macs_Faster_than_PCs/ flame me for not makeing a link.ha like i give a $*** but heres everything you need to know ( :halloitsbrunoWow..... that was an awful comparison with absolutely no substance..... They claimed the mac was faster by un-named benchmarks and customer reviews....... They even went as far as to say it was cheaper (not even close to true)...... You can defiently tell that link was heavily bias

I say go with the PC , you have an account with gamespot so you like the game. The PC will be cheaper, and you can game. A PC should cover all the needs of a averagecollege student.
I would only recommend a Mac if your degree is gonna be in graphic design, digital music, or video editing, but if you need a PC for word processing, email, and internet just go with the PC.
[QUOTE="halloitsbruno"][QUOTE="ferrari2001"]hmmm 11 to 41, well I kinda think that answers your question perfectly. duxupyes it does.that everybody on gamespot is bias Just because people don't agree with you doesn't make them biased... Also no flaming. also the world is biased, because mac only makes up 10% of the market.
There was someone on the other thread that posted pictures explaining why a PC is superior. Anyone knows how to post images?dont-read-this
You were probably looking for one of these:
To me, its an easy answer..PC!
I work in design and I have always been conflicted between owning a pc and a mac. In the design world, most designers swear by a mac rather than using a pc. I however, have always used a PC and never had any problems designing or using it for personal use as well.
I would definately suggest a PC for college. Not only can you save money, but you will get more for what you are paying for. Sure you won't be the talk of the town in the library, with your fancy Mac, but you can go to sleep at nights knowing that you didn't spend $300-500+ more than what you should have for some flair.
