I have recently downloaded bf2_v1-12update with mozila firefox and when it started downloading an icon appeared, anyway the download was interupted(canceled) and now the icon will not delete.

I've tried dragging it into the recycle bin and right clicking and delete but it comes up with the same message "cannot delete bf2_v1-12updat: it is being used by another program or person". Iv'e also tried going into the hard drive and going to Hard Drive)Documents and settings)your folder)desktop and deleting it from there but it comes up with the same message.

I've been told you can boot windows in safe mode and delete from there but im not to keen to do that, so do any of you guys know how to solve my problem

Thanks

P.S im new to gamespot so if this thread is in the wrong place im sorry

It sounds like something is still utilizing that file, it could be explorer.exe or Firefox for some odd reason. You can just leave it like that for the remainder of the day and delete it after you restart your computer. You can also restart your PC right now and try to delete it again. If it still gives you that error message, you can use an unlocker application from download.com to unlock the file from whatever is using it so you can just delete it. That should work, but if it doesn't, you can use the recovery console or safe mode to delete it.

Have you tried using the recovery console to delete it? That shouldn't fail, unless it's a problem with the hard drive.

Right click the file and find it's properties and where the file is located, and note it down.

ALT+CTRL+DEL to bring up Windows Task Manager

end "explorer.exe" processto essentially kill the desktop which is most likely what continues to utilize the file.

On Windows Task Manager, go to File....New Task and browse to the location where the temp file is located, right click and delete

To everyone with the same problem i had, heres a step by step solution

1. go to www.download.com and search for an unlocker program

2. download and install that program

3. right-click the icon that won't delete and hit unlock

4. it should bring up a console thing, then look for a selection thing on the bottom left of the console

5. switch it to delete and then hit kill and it should delete the icon

special thanks to deejaynphinity for his suggestion of using the unlocker application
