If your looking for metal try any of these out
At The Gates (amazing melodic death metal band) Between The Buried And Me (great technical/experimental metal band. I recommend their CD Alaska) Bleeding Through Braindrill Conducting From The Grave(A local band where I'm from, They are amazing live. Check out their myspace. I'd recommend the Song From Ruins We Rise) Dark Tranquility Devourment Disconformity Disfiguring The Goddess Disgorge(My favorite "Brutal" death metal band) Glass Casket Hate Eternal Immortal Into Eternity (CD Buried In Oblivion) Morbid Angel Necrophagist (Really good technical/Experimental Death Metal band from Germany) Nile Origin (check out the song Staring From The Abyss) Ragnarok (Incredible Melodic Black Metal that sounds so unique compared to the genre, the song Murder is awesome) The Black Dahlia Murder (I like their old stuff better) Vehemence (My favorite band. Their melodic Death Metal and IMO the kings of it. Check out the CD God Was Created and the Song She Never Noticed Me) With Passion (A local band that got signed but never really made it that big. They are extremely Technical and Melodic. I highly recommend the CD In The Midst Of The Bloodied Soil one of the greatest albums of all time. I hate their new stuff)
Job For a Cowboy is one of the only signed Death Metal bands you're gonna find.RiSkyBiZ-13
1st off, Job For A Cowboy isn't real death metal (its friggin hardcore music with some death metal influence) and 2nd, They're are plenty of signed death metal bands such as; Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Disgorge, Devourment, Putrid Pile, Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, Etc. I can go on and on

Check out Metal Blade Records. There are a lot of death metal bands signed to that label.
Sixx AM, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Soilwork, Kataklysm, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Scar Symmetry, Nile, and Coal Chamber are worth checking out.
I'm not into the traditional death/black metal stuff, screeching and guitar solos suck tbqh.
Godspeed You! Black EmperorBerzzI bought the original 1997 LP pressing of their debut album recently.

They are amazing, I can't name a song that doesn't surprise me everytime I listen to it.
Um off the top of my head there's a death metal band called Bongzilla who is really the death metal verison of Cypress Hill. Good stuff I say try hearing, "Grim Refer".nirvana563
Bongzilla is nowhere near being death metal...
Buy all six Muse albums. That's all you'll ever need.KLAX42

I am going to start with my most off-the-wall choice as I think more people need to check the band out:
Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains (So much talent in this band. Les Claypool+Buckethead=insta-win)
Opeth (Incredible metal band with death-metal influences. This is just a mind-blowing band and probably my fav)
Nirvana (Great, simple music. This band has shaped my taste in music)
Muse (Such an awesome and unique band!)
All That Remains (Very Underrated band)
The Human Abstract (Again another underrated band)
Maximum the Hormone (An awesome Japanese rock/metal band. I keep loving these guys more and more)
Nightrage (I have to make not the band has had major line-changeups creating 2 very distinct sounds)
old / new (The older stuff is ****c melodic death metal while the new is more of a metalcore sound)
The Sword (These guys do the 70's metal sound better than any other band around!)
Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor is a genious)
