First download went smoothly. So it's not the files . . .
What kind of Internet do you have? Who is your provider?Â
I have a 2mb (or was it 4mb, I think it was 2) high-speed one. It's an Estonian (where I live, country, in the Baltic/skandinavian area) company called Starman. Karl319Â
Could be that your net cuts out for a few seconds every so often. Happened to me a while back. Other than that, or it being the gamespot servers, i can't think of anything.
[QUOTE="Karl319"]Since this doesn't belong in HARDWARE, as it's NOT HARDWARE related. I'll ask it here. Sigh, so, I got a problem again with my PC ... gotta "Love" it.. Anyway. SO, when I download things like demos, patches, maps, mods etc from gamespot, or fileplanet, or filefront or ANYWHERE in general. The download works for ... a minute at most, then freezes up and doesn't progress eer. Even if I re-start it a dozen times. My firewall is NOT blocking firefox... I did a virus and spy/ad-aware scan and cleaned out any nasties that they found. And I don't have this so called "zonealarm" thing people told me to turn off. So.. I'm out of ideas. Any info would be of use. OTHER than re-installing my whole PC with a fresh install... :" because I've done that too much as it is on this PC and it's really a laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast resort. Thanks.
This could be a number of things. You tried a spyware check but this is a very thorough check securitytango. Try it
If it only slows down during downloads and not when using other applications it would most likely be your internet connection. I don't know if you have dial up, DSL or broadband. If dial up, your screwed. You can buy a better internet card for dial up
Dsl will slow down by peaks in usage and your distance to its connection point. Nothing you can do about that.
With broadband you can try a better internet card.
Try turning off the system firewall. See if that helps (don't leave it off )
You can call your IP provider to see what speed you should be at.
Yeah I tried no firewall and no anti virus. Going to try that scan now tho. I tried calling my ISP they said everything should be running fine and to call if I need technical support... >_> Which, as before when I've called, is some idiot saying "IS YER PC TURNED ON" :P But nah, I don't have dial-up, it's 2007 for crying out :lol:Karl319:lol:
But seriously there have been people in the past who call tech support and say their comp is not working. Turns out the power cord isn't plugged in. :?Â
Have you tried using a different web browser? It might be just Firefox itself causing problems. If it does work in a different browser then re-installing Firefox might help, though you'd want to back up bookmarks, settings, etc. No idea how to do that, but there's probably a simple guide.EJ902It does the same in IE as well :( ... freezes download after about 30 seconds of downloading...
Are you on a wireless connection? I have a similar problem too. Cordless phone signals interrupt wireless connections.
Does it always stop at 2 percent? If so I dont know what to tell you. If it stops at random intervals and you're on wireless it could be what I mentioned.
Nah I use a wired connection. Nice and simple. And turning off everything else? define everything else? >_> Bytheway I know this is off-topic, but this is off-topic neho :P I was just on my balcony, a girl was walking her dog and a guy was walking his dog outside, and the dogs like started to run towards eachother and got loose and started humping eachother infront of them xDDDKarl319
:lol:Â dogs are great
Do Ctrl Alt Del - applications - see if there is anything else running that you can turn off
