So this summer I plan on getting into weight training, as my body might need a little toning here and there. I need tips on like how much to do, How much to lift, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

just an FYI you don't "tone" by lifting weights

you get more ripped by losing body fat, which means eating less calories and doing cardio

lifting weights makes you bigger

1. Lay off the soda

2. Lay off the candy

3. Excercise, it doesn't matter what it is, just do it

4. Drink water

5. Have fun

6. Enjoy yourself, otherwise you'll get sick of it

7. Do many smaller reps as opposed to a few large reps, grinding your muscles away is the better way to build them, there is no easy answer

No Soda/Sweets. do a lot of resistance training. (push ups/crunches.) for toning though you need to do cardio to lose the fat. once you're ripped, lift weights to get muscle mass. contrary to popular belief, you can't turn that fat you already have into muscle. fat and muscle are two different things. you must lose fat to gain muscle.

Eating less calories may not be as helpful as greatly reducing fat intake and greatly increasing your protein intake. But I guess if someone is overweight by a large amount, a calorie deficit is important as well.

to the guy who said "do more reps of less weight"

thats actually incorrect if you want to BUILD muscle

if you want to pack on muscle, you want less reps (8-10) of huge weight, and you need to put yourself in a calorie surplus and eat more

if you just want to get toned, it's better to do what he says because you just want to sustain strength while losing fat

Correct. Fat is a nonpolar hydrocarbon, wheras muscle is made of proteins, which are made of polar compounds.

Muscle cannot turn into fat and vice versa. That's like saying wood will turn into metal. It just won't work.

you're not going to lose fat period if you don't eat less calories than you consume

fats are better later in the day, eat your carbs early in the day

I guess I like being toned more than I like being big.

That makes sense, but both are good, I suppose, in just different ways.

The way I see it, if someone maxxes out with 3 reps, they might do three crappy reps, and that's not good either.

I prefer to grind away my muscles by toning. For me, it's just more practical.

just focus on good proper form and push yourself to failure each set

if you can get through all 10 reps without really struggling than you need to up the weight

by rep #9 and #10 you should be struggling with all your heart to lift - that's when you build the muscle

By muscle endurance and muscle strength, it's not that one is better than the other, they're just different and serve different purposes.

TC, just don't burn yourself out doing something you absolutely hate.

One tip I heard before was to start the first set (or 2, depending on how many sets you do) is to lift a weight you can somewhat comfortably do for 1-2 sets. Then on your last sets, ramp up the weight until it gets difficult to finish that set (but use your common sense also, don't ramp up the weight too much). I usually just add another 5-15 pounds, depending on what I'm doing.

high reps at high weight just means your doing high reps at a weight you can do lol

low reps means doing really high so that you can only successfully complete about 8 reps

HUH :P

I'm just saying if you're doing high reps at a quote unquote "high weight" than it's not a high weight lol

high weight means you can't do many reps of it

i can rep 130 easily on the bench, i can only do 6-8 at 150 - thats the one thats gotta make ya bigger

really shred those muscle fibres

If I couldn't do any, then that'd be no reps, right? I don't have a gym, but I put on weights and do handstand pushups with my fingers, so it's all of my 170 lbs on ten points. Eventually I'll be up to two fingers, so that's towards my full body weight on the smallest area possible. With my hands, anyway,

I can do 50 with ten-fingers. So for now that's high rep. I've done a few more with 8 fingers afterwards. I consider my full weight as high here and 50 handstand pushups and high reps. Eventually the number'll get bigger, but until I have something a lot heavier to lift, I'm sticking with this.

i dont recall anyone asking what you can do....

I was using myself as an example. I don't lift weights like people in gyms, and this is one of the few that I count and I go towards my full body weight when doing.

I don't do this myself, but I listen to it being talked about a lot. from what I've heard, tone first, build bulk later, dont go too many days in a row, and all that jazz about proper vitamins and whatever and keeping yourself hydrated.

TS, I think you'll find this more helpful.

Because to be honest, a video game forum isn't the best place to ask about working out.

One thing no one mentioned is consistancy and dedication but considering your not even motivated enough to respond to any posts in your thread it is probably unlikely that you will ever get "toned" and certainly not ripped.

Well If you know literally nothing find someone who does (friend, coach, random person at the gym haha), and get them to teach you. Weightlifting cna be very dangerous if you don't know proper technique and what kind of weight is appropriate for your age, height, weight, and level of fitness. Also your diet will have a big impact on your success at weightlifting.
