This thread went downhill fast. Neon-Tiger doesn't need everyone here going down on him. If it was a mistake, he'll try to get it fixed. The mods acted as they should. Responding to what Kotorkicker said, if they weren't human, they wouldn't have made a mistake( assuming it was a mistake), so stop trying to be a white knight and acting like you're trying to achieve justice here. Gamespot has rules. It appeared as if Neon-Tiger violated them. Mods took action. DivergeUnify

It's not about the Moderation, it's about Mailers misuse of power in general.

It was an example. Nothing more. And like I said, I didn't ban him. How is my fault? I was on the line if he was serious or if he meant in hypothetical terms, and for the last time, I was using "you" in general terms.ayanami_rei

No one is blaming you. I know it seems impossible, but even the almighty moderators can make mistakes; but they need to realize when they do.

The thing is there was no mistake. As I said with my first post in this thread I would have done the same exact thing. You need to take care in what you type since there is no way for us to know if users are joking or not.Dracula68

Except you know... by checking their IP address or whatever "other" methods you have mentioned. This is exactly why the mods here are getting such a bad reputation. They shoot first and sometimes don't even ask questions. Its far easier to just check and make sure before dropping the banhammer. You can easily maintain a "zero tolerance policy" and also make sure that you are right the first time.

Internet. Serious business.

Well, I personally think a 'mistake' in this scenario is a moderator not requesting the admins check his ip first, in which case I would callNeon's banninga mistake.

Granted, you guys can't detect humour over the internet, but I think a 'better be safe than sorry' routine would have been, well, safer; the way this thread has gone sort of proves that.

Yes I agree that was a bit off but hostile attiudes from both parties here, users and mods/admins are not going to get anyone anywhere.

We have to take action when we have zero tolerance of ban dodgers and underage users. If someone goes up to a police officer at random and says "I murdered someone" they will be arrested and questioned. You can't tell if someone is joking or not, or if they are stating hypothetically UNLESS they make it known that they are saying it in hypothetical terms.

But someone who gets banned is going to have a heckuva hard time getting it reversed (if they're innocent) when the banning is concerned with a post that can be interpreted any which way. That's why I think people seem so upset over this because it looks like he was banned so quickly over a post he made and not because someone actually took the time to check if he really was ban-dodging.

You know what's frustrating about this thread? Some of us wanted to change the policy of keeping the reason for bans private. This thread is proving that those who think it should be private are right... everything gets misconstrued, the confidentiality of private messages gets compromised, and people end up being too angry to deal with the truth. :(MAILER_DAEMON

that's BS. The reason for this ban is because of a sentence. Not because of past history or whatever.

I've had mailer( or I believe it was him) reverse a moderation once when it was a blatant mistake. I've had him explain what I've done wrong and how to correct it. All of you are getting so riled over this when the fact is he's just trying to respect the rules. Stop acting like there is some big power struggle occurring here. You( and nearly everyone else) is making this into a bigger deal than it really is.

I would follow this advice guys. I guarantee there has already been multiple moderations from this thread already, I would not try and push it. Let Neon deal with this on his own, hopefully he will be back soon.

Or when they fail to interpret correctly. Then even if he goes through customer service to get his account back, the mod that made the mistake gets away scott free, whereas Neon makes a little mistake and gets banned for it. Great System.

Thats like saying a cop who arrested the wrong person by mistake should be punished.

Depending upon how it is handled they are. Cases are dropped all the time because the cop handled the situation poorly. Either way the accountability seems to be quite out of whack here. I am almost always on the mod side regarding these situations, but when they start acting like they can do know wrong, and they throw snotty attitudes around that get normal users moderated it gets unsettling fast.

Guys....calm the **** down...taking your frustrations out on the mods is going to do NOTHING to help Neon...its just going to end up with more suspensions/bannings...if there was a mistake, Neon can go to CS and hopfully get it fixed, if not, then there is no reson for all the anger...

What the... the only thing I modded him for was copying the contents of our PM conversation without asking first. :? He was modded for telling me to get bent, but that wasn't me.

This is definitely my last post because nobody is reading them. How in the world did he misuse his power? So in essence you are saying I misuse my power as well. I said it before. I would have done the same exact thing as Mailer. Period! And with that, I am done posting,

I can't say it was unexpected, but in no way was it right. I'ld have just gone for a point loss and message delete, i know the mods may want to stop it getting worse but don't mod him until it gets to that point, pre emptive modding may be convenient but it ain't right.

Alright since nobody will believe whatever we tell them I am locking this as it has deteriorated into now accusing Mailer for all the wrong reasons. Bottom line--If Neon was not ban dodging tell him to contact Customer Support.
