well no there's no catch if your asking but netflix could be better. Its great for sure but most of the new movies you want to see are only available on dvd while usually its old stuff on instant. Also while they do have a bunch of great shows on netflix. Many are incomplete as and they dont have all the episodes and they are just missing a ton of shows period. If you want tv your better off with hulu.
It does sound good... still debating between netflix and Lovefilm, I live in the UK and netflix only recently launched, apparently the netflix library is much smaller than the american counterpart.
Compared to pretty much anything else, it's a great deal. I canceled all of my Dish Network premium channels because any movie I want to watch is either available on streaming or is on disc. If you want discs there is a two day turnaround in most areas; I put the last movie I watched in the mailbox on Thursday and got a new one today. Anybody who says Netflix is a ripoff can't be older than 20 and doesn't remember how expensive VHS and cable could be.
It's streaming...but I recommend using unblock_us for Canada or UK as the selection sucks in both Countries.
wait so, some movies you have to get on dvd, and some are stream only?Second_Hokage
Almost anything that's available to stream is also on DVD. There are a few exceptions, such as Power Rangers and some other TV series being stream only.
On the other hand, most of the big name movies that came out within the last year or so such as X-Men: First CIass are DVD only. Also, Netflix has to wait about a month or so before new movies are available for rent to give studios a chance to sell the movie in stores.

Ah yeah, that's true. The Wonder Years is stream only also.It is absolutely fantastic >.> amazes me when people complain about the cost...yet a SINGLE TV CHANNEL on cable WHICH YOU HAVE TO WATCH ON THEIR SCHEDULE can cost 10 dollars a month...CosmoKing7717
Amen, dude. The only thing keeping Netflix from being truly epic is the movie studios' refusal to release too much premium content on Netflix because the money they get for releasing their material isn enough for them, apparently.
i have optimum, do i have a cap? Also is there a device limit? can give my user name and password to family members so we can all use it on multiple devices at the sametime?Second_HokagexD like 7 of my friends use it at the same time right now, so no worries about a device limit. They have been thinking about limiting it at times but so far have kept it open.

Even with it being streaming only now for the $8. It's still a hell of a deal. As long as you don't have a bandwidth cap. :PtagyhagI have no idea if I do or not. Maybe I should find out.
I signed up for the trial... apparently it's only good for TV shows.
Every time I search for a movie it tells me they either don't have it, or it's DVD-only.
Oddly enough; they said I might like the Butterfly Effect 3, so I was like "huh, ever did see the first one. Maybe I'll watch that, and go from there..."
The first movie is DVD-only.
And so is the second.
But not the third. =|

They do that a LOT. The one downside with streaming is that there aren't a whole lot of new movies available, but they usually get new releases available for a short time, just on a really delayed schedule. True Grit and Shutter Island are two of the newer releases they have right now. It does kinda suckl, but it's mostly because so many people were flocking to Netflix and the movie studios got sick of seeing Netflix making so much money so they're trying to strong-arm them as much as possible.
[QUOTE="Darthkaiser"]I've never used that Is that an online only thing? Or do you include it in your cable plan or something Sorry for my ignoranceMistressMinakoIt's basically online streaming of tons of movies/TV shows and DVD/Blu-Ray rentals. You do have to sign up online and no it doesn't go on a cable plan.
If you own a ps3,xbox 360 or wii..you can enable netflix on your console and watch stuff on your tv

Yeah, that too. And you can do it on 3DS. Personally, I use the Roku box since I have other streaming services. It's basically online streaming of tons of movies/TV shows and DVD/Blu-Ray rentals. A lot of newer televisions, home theater systems and DVD players are Netflix enabled as well. They do that a LOT. Well that sucks. =/
I had assumed Netflix was only trying to encourage people to buy their DVD service as well.
So it's like Paperview but for a month and with really low cost?DarthkaiserKind of, I guess, but over the internet rather than a cable network, and it's more like a standard subscription service than a pey-per-item model.Pay a monthly fee and get buffet-like access to their provided content for the time period agreed to.
Yeah, I was impressed by the service. But I'm at University at the moment, so I'm gonna wait till I finish the course before opting in for the service.

Its like having Hbo or Showtime.
Theres large variety of movies, not movies that just released 1-2 months on dvd but about 5 months on the instant stream.Theres a large selection of populer tv shows (Mad Men,Breaking Bad,Walking Dead etc.) If you get the dvd option, you can rent new dvds that came out.
If you have any of the devices that let you get stuff instantly (consoles, smartphones, etc.), there's no reason not to have it if you love watching shows/movies.
Until they complete Top Gear (U.K) and FMA:Brotherhood, then maybe I'll get it lol.
What is dis?dommeusWell, Netflix lets you change regions when you are "travelling"...so unblock_us makes it think you're vacationing in the USA...when used with the Opera or Chrome Instant Queue fix you get the exact same American netflix...but from Canada or Europe... Costs $4.00/mn and is legal.
[QUOTE="hadoken"]canada has absolute SHIIIIIT when it comes to netflix movies, its hardly worth $2mattbbplYou guys typically have pretty low data caps, too, right? I'd imagine that would make the streaming situation even less ideal. Depends...in Toronto, I'm with Distributel, which offers unlimited. The big 2 (Rogers, Bell) do not, however, offer unlimited.
