Since I either completed, or got bored with every game that's interested me currently, and i'm not into any MMO's i've got a bit of lack of things to do in the house for when I want to pass the time and i'm not out doing something.

Someone mentioned on a previous topic on what we did before we had the Internet and one of the things I mentioned gave me an idea. I rummaged around the house and found a crate where I had kept my entire collection of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks which I used to play when I was a little! I got every single one!

So i've decided to play them lol. They are designed more for kids but they are pretty good still. If you stick to the rules they are a bit of fun actually :P I remember as a kid I used to cheat all the time and keep my page references in case I made a mistake and auto win every fight. Also I was not very good at reading back then, so sometimes got a little confused, but now I know what i'm doing i'm surprised in how well the books respond to your logic on how you would play the role of the character.

I just completed this one without cheating!

But I messed up on this one and sent my crew through the wrong black hole.

I am being such a geek but I don't care,it's so nostalgic it almost brings a tear to my eye. I'm deciding which one to play next :P Doubt many Gamespot users will be familer with these, but these books were huge back in the 90's (any maybe before) and I know full well that adults used to play them too! It's like all the geekiness of D&D, but even more so because you don't even need any friends to play it!

I might play this one next :P

Nicely done but I would have thrown a question in there and it probably should have went here: General Games Discussion

I have two of those books, that I bought in a charity shop I think:D .

I have Fighting Fantasy The Introductory role-playing game and The Forest of Doom.

I think I did once manage to complete the Forest of Doom without cheating, but I can't really remember. They're really good though.

Forest of Doom is suppose to be one of the hardest to do without cheating :P Cause it's one of those "One true path" style games they did. If you seriously did that without cheating then grats! I know this because that's the one I decided to pick up and play.

I seem to remember spending quite a lot of time on that. Also, I just found this site which lets you play some gamebooks online :D

I never considered these things RPGs, but looking back that is pretty much what they were.

Lol I managed to finish Forest of Doom without cheating, playing honest! The hammer shaft was in the ogre hut on the captured goblin and the head was in a crypt with a ghoul. I'm so proud of myself.

Whats sad is I had a terrible day out of the surf, I was failing to catch the waves, lost my touch, was causing myself too much drag and catching edges. I think that by doing this geeky stuff my 'cool' skills have suffered!

Not sure which one I will play next. Another campy one probably.

Oh wow never knew of that website that lets you play them online, might have a look.

I played thru a handful of those kind of books. It was really entertaining while it lasted. After completing a book, i started to quest for alternative endings! =]

I've read those "choose your own path" Goosebump books. I read those all the time back in the day; they were pretty cool.
