That cat's attack was justified. You don't leash a cat.I actually saw a man once that was walking his cat.

Why the heck would I adopt such a mean cat? And why were they freaking it out and trying to put it into a box? The attack was justified, and yet it wasn't....

Uh, cats should always be on leashes when outside, unless they're strays and don't have anyone taking care of them. To not leash your pet when it's outside is just wrong and dangerous, and there's honestly no argument that can be made against it other than "But teh animals need to be frees and cats can't do any harm to anyone they need to stroll arounds" Its reaction in the video is a little justified, but to make it an argument against leashing....it would be like saying if a leashed dog bit you, then dogs shouldn't be on leashes.

Thank god my cat doesn't do that. I've always wished I could walk my cat, but he just stops and puts his head down and refuses to move. And/or just lays down where he feels like it, mid-step. I suppose his sloth-like ways are better than being like pinky.

Ever wonder why more cats end up as road pizza than any other domesticated animal? Owners either do not keep them indoors or put them on leashes when outdoors. Sad really.

Go kitty! I like the guy's "rrrrrrRRRGH" sounds.

And, yeah...no duh never leash a cat. You only need to leash animals that are not self-sufficient, like dogs :P

Are you seriously suggesting that everyone everywhere is obliged to WALK their cats, instead of letting them roam free by themselves because of the off-chance some ****ing idiot will provoke it into attacking them? Also I watched the video again; the guy's scream is hilarious.

What he's suggesting is that pet owners should take efforts to ensure that they have posotive control over their animals. It's what's best for the animal as well as their neighbors.

That is why there are leash laws in just about every community in at least the US. Leash laws are to protect both the animal, people and property.

Here is the Cobb County GA leash law:

Animals are required to be on a leash when outside unless contained by a fence. Pet owners are responsible for collecting animal waste and disposing of it properly. Contact Cobb County Animal Control at (xxx) xxx-xxxx to report violations.

As cats cannot be contained by a fence, it has to be on a leash. Unfortunately, cat owners seem to think that the law doesn't apply to them.

Still, there are places that do not have laws that cover cats and just dogs.

The same could be said about children....

Kids have some mental capacity and the ability to learn. Cats...in my childhood I had three that got caught under my fence, one that drowned in my pool, one that got trapped in my shed...my dad's hit at least 3 that I know of during the winter in snowy days where they couldn't see the car coming(and we couldn't see the cat under the snow. I know four cats that were rather aggressive and my friends and I all have scars from them, growing up. My dad must have made at least one and a half dozen trips to the humane society to hand cats over to them.

Yet, I've never once been attacked by a dog, no dog has drowned in my pool or got caught in my yard. All dogs in my neighbourhood were on leashes. Sure, my neighbourhood was populated with a lot of cats, but I had friends who had cats and if they wanted outside they'd leash them up and let them roam around.

It worked out well. For what reason should cats be without a leash? What reason is there for dogs to not be on a leash?

It enforces people to actually take care of their pets instead of passively caring for them(leaving out a dish in their backyard,etc.). It makes sure others don't have to take responsibility where the owners forfeited it. It helps keep the animals and the community safer and in better shape. There's no downside to leash laws for cats, except for cat owners who forget about their cats for days at a time and assumes they can fend for themselves.

Growing up we always had 4 cats in my family. They were all outside animals. Feed em in the morning, let them strut around a bit, kick em out, let em in at night ,feed them, snuggle, then kick them out before bed.

We never lost a cat. And while we didnt live in a high traffic zone, we had racoons and coyotes to worry about.

Theoverprotective mentality people have towards cats is rediculous; theyre independent animals, you dont need to coddle them like dogs

My roommate grew up on a farm. They had an outside dog. Hell, they've had a lot of them, mostly labs. They raised their dogs well, and I know if they brought them to live in town, and weren't on a leash, they'd probably behave just fine. But if you're suggesting cats shouldn't be on leashes while dogs should....that's kind of odd. Cats are independent just as much as dogs are, it's in how you raise them. My roommate's farm dog is independent. Takes care of itself, gets its own food. My friend's indoor cat gets the shakes if it goes outside, and is practically latched onto her whenever she's home. People see cats as independent, so they let them be. While some species of dogs are more innately 'pack' animals, you let them grow up doing their own thing like a cat, and you've basically got the same independence

Having cats in an urbanized setting is dumb in the first place. A lot of people I know who have cats rarely even see them because they are always running around neigborhoods crapping in everyone's yard and being noisy. At least with a dog you can restrain it and choose when it goes and where.

ps I don't understand why this video is funny? People in the Youtube comments find it hilarious and I don't see the humor in it. I just see a pissed/confused/ cat. In fact it makes me uneasy to watch something like that, it's frustrating, he should've let go of the leash long before he did..

The cat being not being treated properly is sad, but the guy's reaction and sound he makes when getting bit is the funny part.

the thing is cats are independent creatures. If you let them do their own thing (instead of putting them on a leash) the normal one's won't do that too you and even with the crazy ones it's rare.

That guy is far more restrained than I would have been in that situation. That cat would have been punched in the head and punted over the building.

Then I honestly hope you don't end up owning any pets in the near future :P

Anyways my cat is an indoor cat so I wouldn't try to put him on a leash anyways, though my friend used to walk his kitten on a harness Lol 8)

Ooo, I'd be careful about that Lucas. Your kitten is "justified" in attacking you if you put her on a leash, because...

  1. Justice is a philosophical concept that applies to human/animal relations, and...
  2. Because.
