I think I heard about this the other day. I can't remember where. Anyway, good news.

I'm still a little skeptical of gene therapy, but it's nice to see that they actually have some patients where it seemed to have an effect.

Wow, thats awesome. Lets just hope its somewhat cost effective, because an expensive cure isnt really going to help as much.

I suppose I'm going to have to install Chrome or Firefox to read that article. Internet Explorer (or some plugin that can block the main IE thread) stops responding as soon as I load the page. :x

Anyway, it's outstanding news and a "feather in the cap" for gene therapy.

Also of interest is this news suggesting that there may be a decidedly low-tech cure for another devastating disease: type 2 diabetes. Eight weeks of a brutally stringent, 600 kcal/day diet has been found to cure the disease in at least some patients.

Man it'd be great if this could work out. Think of all the people that could have been saved, my friends mom just passed away from it not too long ago.

Really? An expensive cure will be great, the big pharmaceutical companies will be all over it. From what I understand, the University of Alberta has more or less discovered a cure to cancer, but it's not profitable, so they're having trouble getting enough funding.

Am I the only one who has an honest concern about how a breakthrough cure for a major disease like cancer could effect the population?

Not to say this isn't great news, but I am honestly concerned about what possible consequences a breakthrough cure like this could have on society.

I wonder if this will cause the human population to grow a bit out of control seeing as how many lives cancer is responsible for taking.

We will be gone by the time we are crazy overpopulated. Also I would like to live as long as possible... and possibly longer.
