After an unpleasant experience with 4 painted parrot fish (horribly weak man-made fish) and an Albino Oscar who was the only one who lived since he's a normal fish, I endeavored to make perfect water for more fish. After a short while the PH was balanced, the water was clear, and the albino oscar was happy and growing bigger. So now I have three beautiful young Black Oscar fish, two scavanger fish with stripes and yellow bottom fins (I forgot their names) and one tri-colored-shark (a small fish that grows to be somewhat large, no sharp rows of teeth or bloody rages, simple shiny scales, black fins). I also still have the original oscar who doesnt seem to mind the newcomers as much I thought he would.

Whats wierd is that, at the store, all of the black oscars were black, then when I got home they seemed greyish black. So at first I though it was the different lighting, but then later on the more greyish looking one's stomach had white black marks that werent there before. Everything about them is like a rocky black void, they look amazing, crude yellow stripes, white spots deep jet black scales...

The Scavangers like to hide in the sunken ship decoration and suck up food from the ground. They also look really cute.

The shark is a sissy actually, even if the little scavenger with the little tiny mouth chases him he gets freaked out and swims extremely fast away. He's cool and full of energy though.

All of the fish look happy and I can wait for them to grow into eventually legendary huge fish. (I'll have to get a bigger tank). ;)

Yeah, those oscars are gonna need a BIG tank. They are not a small fish. Just one oscar needs a pretty big tank, but if you've got three of them then you're gonna have to get a BIG tank.

I have four Oscars, all relatively small right now in a 20 gallon tank. they are going along with three other fish, so how big of a tank do you think I'll need for the oscars to get some room?

Not sure if this applies to all species of fish, but I've noticed that if you put fish that are supposed to grow large in a smaller tank, they don't grow quite as large as they should. For example, put a baby goldfish or koi in a mid-sized home aquarium, and the max they'll grow is around 4 to 7 inches.

If you had put the same baby fish in a backyard pond, they may have grown 1 to 1.5 feet. Maybe more. I once had baby guppies and platies that I never removed from their tiny little nursery tank. Even after months, they hadn't grown nearly as large as their parents. This is something you may want to think about if you want your fish to grow big. You may want to upgrade to a large tank fairly soon.

I'll upload some pictures soon...but right now I have a 20 gallon tank. How big would you recommend for the Oscar fish to grow as large as they should? I'm moving soon so I'll be willing to get a seperate area with a big table for a huge fish tank.
