I guess it's kind of a pleasant surprise to those buying older songs... But I don't like the idea of brand new songs costing $1.29 or whatever. The new songs used to cost $.99, so Apple's just digging a deeper hole for themselves when it comes to their greed. Unless, from what I just heard, it's DRM-free. Or whatever that's called. In which case, I guess it's kind of justified.dreDREb13
I'm not sure all that info is accurate. Here's a good NY Times article on the changes... LINK
It's based on popularity for the most part... not just age.
So, a the brand new Franz Ferdinand song will cost 1.29 when it first comes out, then slip down to .99 after a few weeks, and then once popularity slips, it'll go down to .69
But, it's also at the discretion of those selling music. Indie artists may benefit from being able to sell music for 69 cents right away. I think you'll see big labels/artists with the higher pricing system, while others will stick with the lower two.
Overall, we're gonna benefit.
Also, I'm not sure what "deeper hole" you're talking about. Online music download sales are up over the last 12 months.
