I really don't see the appeal with Twilight. The whole thing is basically some unpopular teenage girl`s crazy vampire sex fantasy.

I still don't even know what Twilght is. From what I gather, it has something to do with sparkling baseball playing vampires, but that's it.

Thats what I thought when I heard the news, one of the signs of the apocalypse. However records are made to be broken, whether it is by a deserving movie or not. Shrek 2 made $441 million dollars, despite being a mediocre sequl, but built on the popularity of its predecessor like New Moon did. Granted I have not seen the movie, nor do I have any intention to, but the box office is booming. As a reminder, this weekend is poised to become the second largest weekend in movie history behind the weekend the Dark Knight was released.
It seems everyone has to voice their opinion, even if it's a rudely negative one. If they hate the Twilight Saga so much, why can't they just keep their opinions to themselves and leave us fans alone to enjoy it in peace?
I love books. Their so under appreciated. To me it seems the movies never even come close to the quality of the book. Someone always has to take out the best parts and replace them with junk to make the movie more popular or interesting for all audiences.

Ever hear of Lord of the Rings? Exact opposite of what you said.

I don't know I was quite disappointed when Jackson removed Tom Bombadil from the movies.
I was at the movies yesterday to see 2012 and the lineup for New Moon was insane, hundreds of people hours before the movie even started.

2012 sounds cool. I guess the kids want to see New Moon. Nothing wrong with that though, sometimes movies like that can be cheezy but fun.

2012 over the top mindless action with entirely improbable situations, but the "splosions" looked cool, and it was entertaining.
I never watched anything about twilight, i gotta watch the movies to see whats so good about it.Drakes_FortuneNo, save yourself the trouble. This is the kind of move that I would be embarrased to like.
I've never seen the movies or read the books so I can't really say anything. But I can't believe it out sold The Dark Knight... Batman is much more classic than Twilight is

Never underestimate the female demographic. All I have to say is: "Titanic $600 million domestic box office, number 1 film of all time" No other film has captured women like Titanic did. New Moon seems to be able to get it too.
God why do people always seem to gobble up the crap more than anything?
Stuff like this just makes me want to punch people in the face and see if I can actually knock sense into them....
All I could think when I saw the title was..
BATMAN > sparkly romantic vampires.
But...
Said "vampire"= romance.
Romance is, apparently, better than Batman. What else this bodes for the industry, I don't want to know.
One final note to leave on, girls at my school are like OMG I LUV EDWARD THAT VAMPIRE GUY I WISH HED MARRY ME *squeal*. Not to rain on your parade, but...
He already has a girlfriend. Plus, he's fictional.
I died a little inside today when I couldn't find any old classic movies on demand. I believe there is a section for classic films to buy on Demand, also a section for independent films in theaters. There is also a section under free movies for TCM.....[QUOTE="iginlawasup"]
Literature and cinema has officially died. Why don't people read classic books anymore?

I've never read either book or seen either movie, but w...t....f? O_o
I don't think anyone ever could have expected it to make so much money opening weekend. I guess Hollywood makes sequels for a reason.
What? Shrek 2 is one of the best animated sequels I have ever seen. It is in no way mediocre.Thats what I thought when I heard the news, one of the signs of the apocalypse. How the hell did a movie with a 29% on Rotton Tomatoes beat Dark Knight's box office record?

Because terrible movies often have tons of mass appeal (i.e. Transformers). This is far from the first time a terrible (allegedly...haven't seen it yet so I can't really judge) movie has become insanely popular.
Cause when you prance around the big screen for 2 hours without a shirt on it equals box office success. How the hell did a movie with a 29% on Rotton Tomatoes beat Dark Knight's box office record?

Sad, because for the most part, The Dark Knight was a smart well written movie. It was kinda surprising to see it do so well at the box office. Even tho most people seemed to not understand most of the plot twists.
The thing I find odd, is that even with the media controversy over Heath Ledger's death, New Moon still beat it's record : /Sad, because for the most part, The Dark Knight was a smart well written movie.
