Joining Kennedy on stage were the directors of these films: James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), and Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, Saving Face). Each feature takes place in a different era in the Star Wars universe. Mangold will be going way in the past to the dawn of the Jedi, with Filoni being able to wrap up the stories he and his team have been telling in the Disney+ TV series The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Book of Boba Fett.
However, it was Obaid-Chinoy's feature that received the biggest reaction of the presentation as it was announced that her movie will focus on a Jedi Master Rey and continuation after the events of Rise of Skywalker and the founding of the New Jedi Order.
Interesting news. They completely dropped the ball in the sequel trilogy with a total lack of a cohesive story and vision so perhaps going for 3 entirely independent movies is the way to go. It will allow them to explore different time periods of the Star Wars universe.
James Mangold and Dave Filoni are promising directors. Not sure about the third one but maybe they can finally do Rey some justice. Or they will all suck and be soulless cash grabs.
