Taco-Bell-Smothered-Burrito.jpg

Last November we brought you news of Taco Bell testing a Smothered Burrito in Ohio. Well thanks now goes to GrubGrade reader Dillon on the heads-up info that the Smothered Burrito is next in line to hit national menus and its set to be replacing the Enchirito. Taco Bell has a way of working in new items on Thursdays so lets see if this Thursday, July 25th is the release date. The Smothered Burrito features a 10.5 flour tortilla packed with shredded chicken, refried beans, rice, and chipotle sauce then topped with red sauce, a three-cheese blend and reduced-fat sour cream. Well update with the price and other details when they become available. In the test run the premium chicken/steak versions were priced at $3.99 and the beef was $2.99.

No, it is a smothered burrito.

An Enchilada, first of all is made with enchilada sauce (which is different than the red sauce they put on the burrito). Second of all, an enchilada is prepared (meat/cheese is put in the tortilla and sauce is put on top) before anything is cooked. A burrito is prepaired after everything is cooked.

No, it is a smothered burrito.

An enchilada (/ntld/, Spanish: [entilaða]) is a corn tortilla rolled around a filling and covered with a chili pepper sauce. Enchiladas can be filled with a variety of ingredients, including meat, cheese, beans, potatoes, vegetables, seafood or combinations. The second they covered it in red sauce and cheese. It became an Enchilada.

The Taco bell version isn't out yet. Aside from Ohio, and their in house taste testers, i doubt anyone has tried this thing of theirs.

Clearly we make our Enchilada's slightly different. and Enchilada's have a variety of different sauces, there is no "enchilada sauce". However that doesn't change the fact that they're serving a corn tortilla, filled with beans, meat, and cheese, wrapped up, covered in sauce and cheese. It's an Enchilada.

Lol at reduced fat sour cream. That means it's healthy, right?

Oh and when will Taco Bell no longer be able to call their meat "meat" but, rather, protein or meat substitute?

Pretty sure enchiladas use a different kind of wrap than burritos.

They both use corn tortillas.

EDIT: you could use flour tortillas for either though, wouldn't matter much.

Just saying, you'd think the guy who suggested this, would have enough knowledge about the food they're selling to know what it's called. "Smothered Burrito" sounds as stupid as saying "orange water" instead of "orange juice"

It looks like something that's smothered in a newborn's diaper.  That has to be the most unappetizing thing I've ever seen a fast food joint try to pass as edible.

Hey, I love me some "orange water." I get what you're saying, though. However, I doubt Taco Bell's loyal patrons will care - at all. They probably find "smothered burrito" more appealing than "enchilada." After all, it seems like Taco Bell customers have a burrito craze (or something).

Just the term "smothered" sounds disgusting and unappetizing. I wouldn't want to eat anything that was "smothered" in anything else.

I guess i just assumed that a major food company like this would have some sort of knowledgeable chef throwing possible new menu items together. Not just a dude who knows nothing about food, and simply wanted more in his burrito, but it wouldn't fit, so he put more sauce and cheese on top.

Lol chefs and taco bell in the same sentence. Aren't they just a bunch of scientists mixing chemicals in order to mass produce food as cheaply as possible with as much "flavor" as possible?

Not in EVERY restaurant. Just at HQ or something. Or even just someone who's been cooking long enough to know what mixtures of spices/meats/cheeses work best? Then again it is Taco Bell.

No way, not from Taco Bell. If I get a burrito, rather than make it myself, it's from Qdoba/Chipotle.

I still haven't tried their Dorrito taco thingy, I didn't dare eat Taco Bell from Seattle, they're all horrible there. Now that I'm in southern California though I might as well, they're much better down here, as is most the fast food in general. Plus ironically there's no good place to get Mexican food down here so I might as well.
