That's not at all what they are calling for; they are calling for the dollar to be replaced as the global reserve currency.China and Russia calls for a Global Currency, America is on the fence.

I like the idea, though if one economy fails so does every other economy in the world moreso than now.

Yes, that's what I wrote, hence "new"
I seem to have forgotten it in the first sentence, but you can read the topic title can you?

It does not mean a "new world wide currency"; reserve currency has a very specific meaning[QUOTE="Dark-Sithious"][QUOTE="xaos"] That's not at all what they are calling for; they are calling for the dollar to be replaced as the global reserve currency.xaos

[QUOTE="Dark-Sithious"]That's not at all what they are calling for; they are calling for the dollar to be replaced as the global reserve currency. Yeah. This. This whole controversy about the dollar being replaced in the U.S. is completely made up. It is a sign of how completely bat **** crazy the folks pushing the idea is. Take a step back and consider for a moment. If anyone in the Obama administration had seriously pushed this idea, don't you think it would be EVERYWHERE in mainstream circulation? Right now the dollar is the reserve currency for a lot of foreign countries, since, traditionally, our economy has been very robust and stable. That isn't the case currently. Some countries are talking about using a different currency as their reserve. Which is something we have ZERO control over. Nobody is suggesting we turn the U.S. currency into rupees or something.China and Russia calls for a Global Currency, America is on the fence.

They are calling for a global reserve currency, not a new global currency like the Euro.-Sun_Tzu-
A globak reserve currency( orcurrencies)already exists, so they are calling for a new one. If that is the Euro, something else, or a totally new currency is unknown.
The latter seems more likely as they wouldn't really need to call for a new currency if they were just going to use Euro
They are calling for a global reserve currency; the U.S. or any other country for that matter is not going to be forced to change their currency if this were to happen.

No ofc not, I'm not suggesating that either, but they are suggesting that the dollar should be replaced as a global currency

Ofc, but as far as I can see it the EU doesn't really have a stable economy either, so I can't imagine they using that, or any othercurrentcurrency. If they are pushing this through, I think it would be best to create a new currency.

As a global RESERVE currency. There is a very stark difference between the two.[QUOTE="Dark-Sithious"][QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"]

The dollar is pretty much a global currency as it is the international pricing currency for gold oil etc

That is not a trivial point to leave out. The key difference is, we have ZERO ability to impact what other countries use as a reserve currency. Right or wrong, other countries describe for themselves what they want to use as their currency reserve based on their own best interests. This does NOT equate to the U.S. abandoning the dollar as its currency in return for some yet to be determined global currency. Nobody. Not me. Not you. Not Obama. Not anyone in the Senate or Congress is suggesting that we change the U.S. currency from the dollar to something else.[QUOTE="Dark-Sithious"][QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"] As a global RESERVE currency. Yes and no. If anyone of any significance in the U.S. was supporting the idea of a global currency, then I would agree with you that it might be an open question. Since absolutely nobody in any sort of position of authority in the U.S. has been pushing the idea, then I would consider this a complete non-issue. If and when there is any sort of legislation pending, any sort of key political figure is talking about this, etc. I'll reclassify this issue as an unknown. Please Log In to post.
