i guess since the violence is down and al Qaida was driven out of the City, the Iraqis where able to celebrate in relative safety, just like a record number of pilgrims were able to visit Bethlehem on Christmas because of Israeli- Palestinian peace talks. Anyway Gen. Ray Odierno said that violence in Iraq is at the lowest level since the U.S. invasion of 2003. Gen. David Petraeus says the mood in Iraq resembles the mood of 2003 "with Iraqis feeling liberated- this time from Al Qaeda" and then says there is still work to be done " we aren't doing our victory dances in the endzone". So i guess the U.S. went from liberator to occupier and now back to liberator, and New Year's Eve marked the anniversary of Saddam's execution, maybe that's what the Iraqis were really celebrating.
i know but the news said they were celebrating, maybe they wanted to celebrate the Western New Year in solidarity with their liberators, mostly the U.S.. Or maybe they were celebrating the anniversary of Saddam Hussein's death.
[QUOTE="_ENFMA_"]Muslims have a different New Year...whipassmt
