Not really. They'll just go back to tackling with their shoulder and wrapping up instead of blowing up.

The NFL is being proactive. Would you prefer that congress steps in? -it is better that they take this stance in the face of mounting research as to the effects on head injuries than have to deal with congress or worse...a death on the field Furthermore, they did not institute any new rules. They are just enforcing existing rules more strictly.

Hockey went through some changes with respect to "the rough stuff" too and it's still great.

They are just freaking out after what happened to that college player this past weekend. Helmet to helmet hits, or any serious hit to the head can be very dangerous. Their should be fines if they seem intentional, but sometimes they just happen and in those cases no one should be punished. It is Football, one of the objects of the game includes hard hits, to take that away ruins it.

Touch football is fun with friends, but when I watch NFL games I expect hard hits.

The NFL is great because the league actually tries to enforce rules, not in spite of this.

The reason I don't like the NBA is because the refereeing and governing association are a joke.

The comments about the NFL turning into touch football are comical at best.

There is a difference between illegal hits....and hard hits. And currently the NFL is blurring the lines....

Suspend players for helmet to helmet hits. A defender shouldn't be leading with his head with intent to hurt someone. You can;t fine them because they don't learn anything. Some players set aside money just to pay off those fines. Suspensions will get the game of football back in order and make it a MUCH better game.

the only way players are gonna stop making dirty hits and being careful out there is if there is threat of suspension. too many nfl players dont know how to tackle and lead with their head and shoulder pads and serious injuries happen. look at the kid from rutgers, he's paralyzed from the waste down trying to make a play. or dunta robinson this last week, he gave himself and desean jackson a concussion because he wanted to make a highlight

Given the new punishments for "devastating hits", We might as well get rid of helmets altogether.
