Lots of people don't like religion or what it can do to some people, but I'd still rather them have the choice.

Isn't that a contradictory statement? And in other news, China has an authoritarian communist government.

Well, it isn't really "communism" if the government is authoritarian. Just like communist Russia under Stalin wasn't really communism because of an authoritarian ruler. Falsely named I guess.[QUOTE="Buttons1990"][QUOTE="imaps3fanboy"] Isn't that a contradictory statement?imaps3fanboy

Well, it isn't really "communism" if the government is authoritarian. Just like communist Russia under Stalin wasn't really communism because of an authoritarian ruler. Falsely named I guess. I don't think it was falsely named. A strong, military government was part of the first few steps into transitioning the world into Communism. The idea being you needed a strong government to protect Communism until the world was ready to go into it. Then the government was supposed to release their power to the people (because we all know political leaders are ALWAYS willing to do that).[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]China is repressive in many ways.....Darkwanderer000
America is truly no better.
Are you kidding me? Do you honestly think repression in the US is comparable to that done in China?
and whats worse is people in america vote for people with communist ideas and for some reason think here it wont be oppressive as if american communism will be peaceful love time and be the one exception to the rule. And in other news, China has an authoritarian communist government.

Somebody needs to brush up on their knowledge of political systems. See: Pinochet and his authoritarian capitalist rule. And in other news, China has an authoritarian communist government.

This is probably a more likely reasoning, rather than just outside influences of other nations and their ideas. No ****** Sherlock
It's long been known communist countries shows a dislike towards religion; being religion says their is something higher then "the state" that you need to obey.

you know what else they don't have?
explosive vests and idiots burning holy books.
seems like a pretty fair trade off to me.

Edit*...and Christianity. I remembered that one American Preacher who burned a Koran or something... In retaliation, terrorists claiming to be Muslims killed people.

Is this really the connection we want to make? people are either going to be repressed by religion or the political body.
at least with the political body they don't throw science out the window and wallow in ignorance and superstition.

I see the rhetoric you presented which people have a choice to follow or not and raise you state sponsored propogandain an environment in which access to contrary information is limited.
I'll take freedom of thought over censored/forced information any time.
Technically, they're communists in name only, holding onto power through fear and corrupt government left unchecked by censorship. They've already gave up the economic concepts of communism. but unwilling to give up their power. And in other news, China has an authoritarian communist government.

well you are right of course but seriously at this point religion is more dangerous to mankinds progress than it has ever been before and it almost seems that an enemy to religion is a good thing.how many of those kids getting dragged through a museum teaching the earth is 6,000 years old could make a contribution to the world if not indoctrinated into that kind of nonsense?

I only know a handful of creationists - I think that such beliefs are held by relatively few. Regardless, education and access to information is a better solution to such an issue. I've always believed that allowing others to form their own conclusions is better then forcing a single individual's or group's views on the masses. In fact, I would think that everyone having the same viewpoints would stifle progress no matter what set of viewpoints is in question. People need to be able to think outside of established boundaries for progress to occur.Wait a minute, this is surprising to anyone? Did everyone think that it was all rainbows and lolipops over in China? Jesus Christ.
Taiping Rebellion which killed 20 mil people is caused by a Christian Jesus wannabe. I guess China doesn't want a repeat of that.
china is an authoritarian, suppressive state?............ huh............ I guess we learn something new every day.
I did the some quick research on the the rebellion that you mention and I don't remember reading anything about the leader being a "jesus wannabe".Taiping Rebellion which killed 20 mil people is caused by a Christian Jesus wannabe. I guess China doesn't want a repeat of that.

Wait what, but one of my aunt back in China recently converted to Christianity, so there is freedom in religion, right?

The leader was a messiah like figure who believed that western ideals were corrupting China, and advocated a return to traditional values through his form of modified christianity.
And since I can't quote my class notes, wikipedia will serve
"After studying the material, Hong Xiuquan claimed that the illness he had following his imperial examinations was in fact a vision to the effect that he was the younger brother of Jesus,[3] who was sent to rid China of the corrupt Manchu Qing Dynasty rulers"
