Judging by the tone of their responses to other countries about their concerns (even threatening war). I'd say that North Korea didn't do this for any peaceful reasons. Not to mention the background of the country... You just can't trust a country like North Korea with nuclear technology. I hope the USA does have a stern response as they said they would. It is not a smart idea to do nothing about it, that will just encourage them.

Well, I probably should have said "USA and Japan and South Korea" instead of "everybody. Got carried away there. :|

Yeah, I don't think about North Korea alot either. I'm just saying that North korea is always causing problems for the USA, Japan, and South Korea; the countries themselves, not every indivdual in them.

You know i bet it was a capsule with kim jung il in it. They were actually trying to get rid of him, but didnt want the rest of the world to know, so they played it off as a satellite launch covering up for a ballistics missile test.

Something called "The Cuban Missle Crisis" comes to mind. Back in the 1960's when Kennedy was president. North Korea-a communist nation-is sticking it's tongue out at USA. They are 'testing' our new president/government where global military issues are concerned. Supposedly a Democratic government is not as scary to them as a Republican one -often an issue during election time here. (democratic federal government=whimpy and republican federal government=threatening is often the international thinking toward USA) They never recall that F.D.Roosevelt (democrat)was in charge during the second world war, and that Lincoln (republican)was the president who ended slavery. Now it's up to Barack Obama to respond to a serious global issue as new president. USA will also get to see how the new prez handles 'global ugliness'.

Perhaps North Korea wants to start another war to drain American finances and thin troop concentrations even more. My father was a soldier during the Korean War days. (That is the war that M*A*S*H was about -BTW) Maybe if we had been allowed to 'win' back then this wouldn't even be an issue now.

Let's make sure our generation remembers this moment though- North Korea-despite WORLDWIDE pressure against them(not just the USA) went ahead and launched a military grade rocket over another nation's border.

Let's keep that fact straight whatever happens next.

Uhh you do know that the Cuban Missle Crisis involved Soviet Russia positioning nuclear missles in Cuba, not North Korea? And so far the evidence points towards the N. Korean launch being a legitimate satellite launch, not any kind of weapons-testing. The main problem with N. Korea is that they want their sovereignty, and want to be treated as equals with Japan and the Western powers, but refuse to cooperate and recognize human rights and other global U.N. mandates and such.

The article i read said that they were not able to determine whether a satellite was launched with the rocket or not.

The BBC News article reported that an independent witness saw a satellite attatched to the rocket. Not confirmed, but BBC is pretty reliable.

I didn't say it was the exact same situation. It is a similar scenario because it's intended to get a response from the other nations who didn't like the idea. Korea did launch 'something' into another nation's border. And as stated here elsewhere ; NKorea refuses to recognize human rights or cooperate with UN mandates,etc.

You should stop worrying about foreign affairs and worry more about your own country. Isn't the jobless rate crazy high?

I WOULD rather focus on the domestic situation in my country. NKorea can go hang and stick to manufacturing Hyundai cars. BUT my power is a single vote to change what my nation's stance is on this childish stunt. Untill then it's going to be in our face thanks to media, and folks my age aren't allowed to look the other way.

To avoid the potential Troll argument this can become how about a side-thread;

How would a communist nation be at manufacturing video games as part of their global income?
