He's dead now though....I guess it's true after all. You are dead to other people until you die...then you're alive. A paradox?a55assinSounds like it.

That's...arguable.
Trying to drive this thread off course >_> ..Â
No...never!

I have just come out of two suspensions...one right after the other. I will be an angel forever from now on. Â

So sacrificing your life for the lives of several other people doesn't make him a patriot. Either they were all going to die or just him. Good move in my opinion. I couldn't do that and I doubt many people here could. What do you define as a patriot?
From dictionary.com:
Patriot- a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion.

I don't want to get into this..but I see it in a bit different light.

yes but he didnt mean it in that sense anyway lets not argue about this please Â
All I'm saying is that he died for his friends...he wasn't thinking about the US when he was sacrificing himself. It's as simple as that. He meant to save lives...and he did...but I'm pretty sure anything related to the US passed through his mind in his last moments on earth.
Â
Also...not being a Patriot or being one...what does it matter? Does it make the person better? I don't think so...he might e declared a Patriot..but he wasn't thinking about a country when he died.Â
Amazing.but to even suggest that he isn't a patriot sickens me. This man is what America really is. If you sift through the crap that media throws out there, and get right down to the core, America is full of great people.
Sadly, most people in this thread haven't heard about this man's bravery. The media is too busy reporting about Don Imus, and Recent Death Tolls in Iraq, and whatever. Again, I'm not sure when this event actually happened, but chances are the media didn't report it.

Do you know what he was thinking?
I missed in the article where it said "he fell on to the grenade while screaming, "I'm doing this for only my friends and not my country!"' If you could please show me that that would be great...
Just common sense...a55assin
I'm guessing you also missed the part where he pulled one of his injured comrades to safety in the middle of heavy fire also. Seriously, what makes someone a patriot? I would really like to know.
[QUOTE="a55assin"]Just common sense...andyboiii
Â
you act like what he did was so easy, Im pretty sure you dont have the courage it takes to do what he did
Â
It's not easy...but doing something like that for a country...that's unthinkable to me. Look...friends are more important than patriotism...that's all I'm saying. What he did was truly amazing...like you said...only a few of us would do such a thing. Â
Â
PS: I'm not saying I'm a brave man...but I would probably do the same...you have to like life not to. And I'm not saying he didn't like life.Â

Trying to save a friend he's been through hell with isn't patriotic...it's human feelings. Â
hes a patriot look at the facts he joined the military if that wasn't enough he went on to join one of the best units we have in our military...something tells me he was a patriot
The man is a true hero...drop the agrument now!

You do realize that some people do actually love America. Some people would voluntarily die for their country. I've lost an uncle and two cousins to this war and I will probably be enlisting some time in the near future. I would gladly die for America.

He still didn't jump on the grenade for America, he did it for the men around him. Him jumping on a grenade has nothing to do with America, other than the fact that they're all American (I think). He's still incredibly brave, nonetheless.I'm not saying that he only did it out of love for america, but this man IS a patriot. He was a freaking seal for heaven's sake, that takes an extreme love for America as it is.

Â
I'm happy for you..really.
Â
But what you're saying is a bit illogical. You've lost people in this war which began because of Oil...and yet you would die for America? I would die for people...not US..not any country in the world..no matter how nationalistic I'd be.
