The two main parties have done nothing but dug the nation deeper and deeper into the hole over the past few decades. It's now clear that as long as the Republican and Democrat parties rule this country isn't going to improve. Now I could continue supporting the Democratic party. Or I could switch over to the Republican party and pretend that that's going to make a difference. But I've never been big on lying to myself (to others sure, but not to myself). Or I could support a party that falls in closer to my own views and might, if in power, actually make a difference. Now I harbor no delusions of Stein's chances of success, but my support for her is more support for the Green Party in general and in getting them firmly established as a party in my state. If you're fine with the status quo in America then by all means, continue to support the Republican/Democratic party. If your're not happy with the status quo then shift your support to another party. Green, Libertarian, Bullmoose, I don't care. Just find a party that truly matches your views and beliefs and support that party whole-heartedly rather than continuing to go with the "lesser of two evils".

Personally I think voting for the two main parties at this point is batsh*t insane, but enough side tracking. This thread is about cordial discussion of the written word, not political bickering. God knows there's enough of that on this forum as it is.

Did you vote for Cynthia McKinney last election?:|
I haven't been reading lately, but the last book I finished is The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro, my favorite author. It was one of the most unique books I've ever read. If one wants to get into Ishiguro, however, this is not the book to read. It is challenging and confusing at times.
How is it? Nice and gritty?Black Company. Wanna finish it quick so I can get started on Deadhouse Gates.

[QUOTE="cain006"]How is it? Nice and gritty? It's alright. I'm about a fourth of the way done, so I can't give a real opinion but it hasn't really captured me yet. I do like how the author keeps things moving, that's the only thing I don't like about the Song of Ice and Fire books, seems like not much is happening sometimes.Black Company. Wanna finish it quick so I can get started on Deadhouse Gates.
aaronmullan
But it seems like an easy read because I just finished Gardens of the Moon and you have to pay close attention to basically every word in that book :P. I really wanna get going on the Malazan books again, the first one was really awesome.
I've started to read Smile, You're Travelingby Henry Rollins, but I've been sidetracked by other things. Gotta make some time to finish it.
The Greatest show on Earth by Dawkins, as well as the Quran interestingly enough (not for any religious purposes....obviously).
currently re-reading
plan on reading:
At the moment I'm reading Carl Sagan's insightful Pale Blue Dot. Amazing read and beautifully written.
- Life of Pi
SaudiFury
By chance do you plan on reading this because the film adaptation that is coming out later this year? I just ordered it the other night and know others who have recently picked it up, all because of that reason.

pretty much. the film brought the book to my mind, and i went and read the premise. suffice to say it got me interested. I wouldn't of found it had it not been for the film. Please Log In to post.
