Story

Been quite a stir about this the past few days around here. This place (Y-12) was said to be like a fortress, impenetrable by mere mortals. The vast majority of the nations weapons-grade uranium is stored here, both in raw form and as warheads. (As far as I know, we have no missiles here).

Don't you feel safe tonight wittle snuggums?Do ya?:P

INCOMPETENCE IS GOING TO KILL US ALL!

I feel plenty safe. As with our nuclear silos, these places themselves(not the security around it) are impenetrable.

As somebody who used to guard nuclear missiles I know full-well that people are going to get past the legal demarcations(security fences). Hell, I was there when the Clowns for Christ got onto one of our launch facilities. Morons tried to use hammers to get inside. We've had special forces use C4 during training exercises that haven't been able to get inside.

Well I'm pretty sure that everyone should be able to have their own nukes, so I feel less safe because they didn't get them.
What?
Hey, yeah...if you look at the pic of Y-12, realize that 9/10th of that facility is pretty far underground.

Nonetheless, it's the fact that such a feat was previously deemed unachievable that makes it so funny.

The main facility probably is, and we're probably not hearing the whole story with regards to the security response. For instance, when we realized there were unauthorized people on our launch facility our entire Security Forces group(company strength) was mobilized and prepared to respond to any other site that had IZ/OZ alarms.

They are very secure. You'd need much more C4 than they had, plus digging equipment(bacows, jackhammers, etc) to actually penetrate. And by that time you'd have convoys of armored IFVs arriving with MK19s and M240Bs ready to ruin your day. We'd rather destroy the nuclear weapon than let anybody get their hands on it.

Why don't they go through the air ducts instead? Spy movies clearly taught me that there's always a system of air ducts (conveniently large enough to crawl through) that leads straight to the most secure locations.
