Obama inauguration: Words of history ... crafted by 27-year-old in Starbuck

When Barack Obama steps up to the podium to deliver his inaugural address, one man standing anonymously in the crowd will be paying especially close attention. With his cropped hair, five o'clock shadow and boyish face, he might look out of place among the dignitaries, though as co-author of the speech this man has more claim than most to be a witness to this moment of history.

Jon Favreau, 27, is, as Obama himself puts it, the president's mind reader. He is the youngest chief speechwriter on record in the White House, and, despite such youth, was at the centre of discussions of the content of today's speech, one which has so much riding on it.

For a politician whose rise to prominence was largely built upon his powers as an orator, Obama is well versed in the arts of speech-making. But today's effort will tower over all previous ones.

What? Inconceivable. A politician who has other people write their speeches? I-I've never heard of such a thing. :x

It has been a long time since we had a president who was skilled in the arts of speaking and forming his own speeches. The living proof of this story is evidence that Obama is merely a shell who has the ability to memorize speeches.

It also reveals that people who voted for Obama were fools and remain as fools they shall.

Yes, it's quite serious. Obama doesn't write his own speeches - this is obviously a sign that his presidency will be the worst in history.

First of all, I'm not bashing Bush, he was a reasonably good President. But 'playing dumb' is not something anyone is politics would ever, ever do. I'm not saying he's stupid, but you must admit that he made a few embarrasing gaffes throughout his career.

Anyway, you have any proof for anything you just said?

Have you had seen speeches by Bush made when he was governor of Texas? Also, on the Obama's immigration policy about him wanting more foreign workers when Americans are losing jobs. It's on whitehouse an official website crafted by Obama and his cronies.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/agenda/immigration

"The time to fix our broken immigration system is now… We need stronger enforcement on the border and at the workplace… But for reform to work, we also must respond to what pulls people to America… Where we can reunite families, we should. Where we can bring in more foreign-born workers with the skills our economy needs, we should."

A shining example of your intelligence on the issue of immigration. It's bad to bring in more immigrants when we are in recession, when Americans are losing jobs. It is WRONG to bring in more immigrants when the US economy is not doing great and increases the amount of welfare recipients. I will be fine with immigration when our economy is doing good and jobs are plentiful and guess what? It's not right now.

It's *wrong* to bring in skilled immigration, when the last time your Country was in recession, skilled immigration pulled you out of it and brought on an era of economic stability? Interesting viewpoint.

You also assume *skilled* immigration means *welfare* recipients? Seriously?

America have all the skilled workers it needs. More immigrants = more people wanting jobs when there are plenty of skilled American labor out of a job.

There's a massive doctor/nurse shortage in the USA currently, as well, there are not enough skilled engineers, why aren't said skilled americans lining up for those jobs? There are plenty of other fields that need skilled workers currently, and the economy needs new small business ventures to open to stimulate the economic growth of the country, appealing to foreign business owners/electricians/engineers/doctors to replace the currently waning work force does nothing but promote growth, and it has been proven to be effective *many* times in the past.

I dislike him because he has absolutely proven that he has zero experience and knowledge how to do his job. He'll be carried by his cabinet cronies who are doing the job Obama can't. Believe me when Is say this, Obama will be FAR worse than Bush and you just wait and see.

Heck, Obama was already a bad candidate when he sued banks on the behalf of ACORN to force them make subprime loans.

This did say that Jon was the co-author right? Also I don't know of a president in recent history who did not have others involved in preparing a speech including Kennedy and Reagan.

*sigh* Yes. He is the Messiah. In fact, just call him God and we'll call it a day.

Did I say that? Who said that? I am just refuting the TC's claims that Obama is merely a shell that reads things that people write for him (when the TC ironically has Bush in his sig).

no you refuted them the post BEFORE that one

the refreshing obama was pointless.

George W Bush was a very good president. He was patriotic. He defended our country. He stopped a dangerous regime leader(saddam HUSSEIN)

oh but he was dumb

xD

I personally don't like Obama. He sorta gets the sympathy vote for being Black. In his Inurgaration speech he was carying on "We will leave Iraq and them and there war be""We will build towards a better future". Yadda Yadda Yadda. Suddenly he goes "If anyone stands in our way we will crush (or was it destroy) them" and some other stuff after that.

That's a whole different thread. This thread is about Obama's speeches, and my reply was exactly on point. I was pointing out the irony in the TC's statement about speechwriting and oratory skills.
