Obama can give a seemingly exciting speech. So, he's moreso an orator. John McCain doesn't care much for teleprompters, and is best in Town Hall meetings and debates.

Have you noticed how Obama hesitates when he speaks? He utters "euhhheuh" a lot when he begins to speak when not reading from a teleprompter. Who watched the Saddleback forum with Rick Warren? John McCain gave quick and decisive answers, Obama did not.

What you get from Obama is a lot of "nuance." Yeah, though I'm sure that that style is considered intelligent and careful...

I can't wait for the debates.

McCain's speech was ... oh wait no sorry I don't remember it because I slept through it. Most boring, unmotivating speaker I've ever heard.

The debates will indeed be a shock to Obama supporters. There were times in the primaries when Edwards, Clinton, and Biden made him look like a fool.

I aso want to see how Obama does in the debates. He is a good public speaker, and McCain a poor one, but when it comes to thinking quickly and giving quick answers, McCain may have him beat. We'll see.

I have little reason to believe that a man who taught law and the University of Chicago and graduated from Princeton is going to have a hard time being articulate. If he takes time to say something, it is because he is thinking of the issue, not because he is slow-minded. I do not see any reason to suspect either of the candidates are stupid or inarticulate; they would not be candidates if they were.

Every time he has lacked a teleprompter, be it an impromptu speech, a forum, or a debate, Obama has been as inspiring of a speaker as John McCain is at speeches. If you look, you shall find.

I like how people go "they agree with some of Bush's ideas, therefore they're bad!"

First, this makes the silly assumption that whatever Bush considers to be good, must be bad. Bush considers food to be good; is food bad?

Second, this makes the silly assumption that Bush had nothing but bad ideas. Some of Bush's ideas were really good, but were executed so terribly that there was no way they could have worked.

This is America, they voted an imbecile as their president twice in a row. Show them a 77 year old war vet and a "hockey mom" and they're all set

It'll all come back to bite them in the ass though, it always does. Look at what a failure the USA has become under Good ol George from Texas

its not going to be that great,

more spending + higher taxes = more debt

you have to raise taxes, in fact I have heard that this is the first US war that taxes weren't raised

Corporate income taxes-we currently have the second highest in the world. Is raising them to lower taxes on the lower income people going to do any good? No. Why? Because, with that, more businesses move overseas for lower taxes (many major contracting firms, such as Weatherford and Halliburton have already done so), so the US has fewer jobs, and thus has less money to go around.

What would Obama's policies would do to those who make over 250K per year? They would increase taxes on them to 60% of their income. Good? Only if you feel good when bad things happen to those who do better than you. Over 50% of those individuals are either small business owners or individual practice owners (doctors, lawyers, etc.) and recent polling suggests that the individual practice owners, especially doctors, would cut their services significantly in order to get below the 250K per year bracket, thus lowering medical service across the nation, thus further complicating the healthcare problem. Meanwhile, small businesses, whose profits are taxed via the business owner (whose income is usually inflated, as the income of the entire business is counted as his/hers, and then distributed to his/her workers, insurance companies, etc.), suffer significantly due to their already inherent instability, which further damages the economy, as over 25% of it is comprised of small businesses. If even a tenth of them go under, the US economy suffers a significant slowdown that further cuts jobs and average income.

IMO, both taxes and spending should be cut across the board, especially for corporations, in order to make our economy more stable and competitive.

well thats your opinion,

mine is that the US is fighting two wars, we need to raise taxes, I think we need to raise taxes on people who make $150,000 a year because

So...tank the economy by raising taxes or helping it by eliminating frivolous policies-Social Security would be far better if it were, as Al Gore suggested, a "lock box", as, then, it would gain interest, thus allowing the government more money to use for it or other things, thus decreasing waste and cutting the input:output ratio by over 50% while keeping output the same; public education is so filled with wasteful spending it's surreal; military spending is as inefficient as all hell (75 dollars for a hammer, anyone?), as are public works projects in general-they are almost invariably delayed, exceed cost projections due to a plethora of loopholes in contracts, and much more besides (indeed, the only major public works project in the past decade that was actually under budget was the Houston I-10 expansion, and, guess what? The city and state governments were the ones that provided the capital and did all of the logistics for it).

There's lots of room to cut spending.

Indeed. The top twenty percent hold 50% of the nation's wealth. However, they don't pay anywhere near 95% percent of the taxes. They only pay 80%.

higher spending needs higher taxes

alexmurray

There's lots of room to cut spending.

yea the bush tax cuts really helped the economy,

and yes cut spending cut the Iraq war that's lots of spending

I never said we shouldn't cut the Iraq war out, did I? ;)

The Bush tax cuts were actually quite a bit more successful than you give them credit for-they continued the economic growth of the Clinton years for over six years more, which is significant, as the actual driving force behind the expansion during the Clinton years-the tech boom-had long since subsided by the end of the time of growth. Indeed, the current situation is completely unrelated to the tax cuts. It is far more closely related to the unethical lending practices of firms like Countrywide Financial.
