I don't think it was Obama that proposed this. I believe it was a senator.

It was former Governor Jessy Ventura that proposed a war tax.

... To me I think a war tax is pefect.. BUSH SHOULD have instated one from teh beginning.. Why? Because it would shut up that same crowd who are pro war, but hate taxes.

i agree. "you want a war pal, your gonna pay for it" it's odd that expecting a government to pay for stuff with money it actually has is a radical idea....

Politically it's a bad idea. The only thing people hate more than casualties is taxes.

I can't help but think it the perfect for politics.. We seem to have a plague of people in the United States who is against government spending yet is for large scale wars, and like to criticize our services like police and firemen departments run as well as public education.. I guess people can't understand that the quality of our services, military, and what they want directly hinges on the tax dollars they so hate paying and wish they would completely dismantle it.. This self serving ingnorant thinking needs to be hit head on because all it has done is cause damage due to allowing it to fester.

From a political standpoint no president would ever allow a "war tax". Basically any war sitting president is going to think any war they are involved in is just, and therefore won't do anything to undermine it. A war tax would undermine the public opinion of the war, and rouse even more public opposition to the war.

Personally I think Obama is doing a fine job as C&C. At first I was worried that he'd be soft on terrorist, but his dedication to the war in Afganistan has shown some backbone.

Ah but it's so much easier to just borrow the money and have long term consequences down the road! :D

True or not, I am for it.

This country has tried to wage war outside of our borders while not sacrificing one thing except the lives of our young men and women. I think their lives are worth a slight tax increase. We have no idea what it used to be like in war(food rationing, huge tax hikes), and I think its time we learned about "shared sacrifice"

There are a couple stories about the funding for the Afghan war and the so called "war tax" in the Washington Postand the Washington Times.

I believe wstfld is correct. first I heard about the war tax was back in November (Sen Carl Levin's idea is to tax those making over $200-250K a year). From everything I've read, the Obama camp has been mum on how they actually intend to fund the continued operations in Afghanistan.

I'm a fed if you can't tell.... :D

Right now it seems to just be in the brainstorming stage in Congress.

You mean the government might want to pay for a government program with taxes?! That's unAmerican!
