Why do you think obesity has become a big problem?

Because people are lazy and don't work off what they take in...And some people have a slow metabolism...its mostly genetic
It's a combination of reasons. Many americans live in the suburbs, and have made themselves completely dependent on personal cars for getting around, I mean come on how many times have you seen people or found yourself getting in your car at a strip mall or similar place and driving to another parking spot? A few years ago somebody came out with a statistic that city-dwellers tended to weigh less than people from the suburbs. Fast food, and restaurants in general, are a part of the problem, and the fact that many americans work in jobs that require very little physical labor. There are many more factors, these are just the ones off the top of my head.

Slow metabolism is heriditary in my family, and so is diabetes. I have to exercise all the time to avoid that risk of developing diabetes. I had a diabetes scare about 4 years ago too. I have a higher than normal metabolism because of all the exercise I do, but I constantly have to keep what I eat in check.

Exactly
~-~Personally, I don't think people need three meals a day. We give our kids a plate full of fool three times a day and force them to eat as much of it they can. (and usually a bit more) Then what do you know, the kid turns out to be fat and is hungry a lot. When you force kids to eat more then they need their bodies get used to it and they get hungry more often, and guess what's just around the corner. I personally only eat one meal a day, and that's on average, sometimes I'll just snack all day. And you know what, I'm just fine. Not only am I normal but when cold season comes along I get it weaker and it doesn't last as long. (if I even get it that is.) And I live in a day care center, so cold season is FRIKEN COLD SEASON. What can we do about it now? Nothing I can think of. But I would advise that you don't cram food down your kids throats 3 times a day.~-~The_PirateKing
I'm the same. I pretty much only eat when i'm hungry.
I admit I do eat out a good ammount. about 4 times a week. but I'm pretty thin.
Not saying i couldn't lose a few pounds, but as an above poster said, I've become a little dependant on my car.

I eat fast food all the time, and I've lost 15 pounds in the last 3 months.
well everybody has a different metabolism, you may have a fast one so that might be the cause of a loss of wieght. do you exercise on a daily basis?[QUOTE="2ndWonder"]fast food resturants is the main casueMrGeezer

Well the thing is, is that the people who do go to fast food restaurants do not excerise or maintain proper nutrition due to a common lack of disipline.
So, you are considered lucky among fast food eaters.

I don't exercise or maintain proper nutrition either. The only possible factor contributing to my weight loss is that I don't eat MUCH fast food (even though I eat it OFTEN). But that's balanced out by the fact that I drink lots of beer. And not the watery thin **** either. I'm a Guinness man. That crap's so thick, it's practically a meal in itself.
Of course, even though I don't exercise, the fact that I've started working about 70 hours a week probably has something to do with it. But even that/s sort of weird. Because when I first started working all the time, about four months ago, it took me about a month and a half to lose about three pounds. And I gained that back after one weekend of indulging in food. Soon I just decided that I didn't give a ****. And I've been eating fast food constantly for about the last month. Just today I checked my weight on the scale and I was down 15 pounds from where I was 4 months ago. That's having eaten lots of fast food, and without even trying to lose weight.
I don't know what could have happened. I'm guessing that working so much actually did speed up my metabolism quite a bit, but that it simply took a couple of months for my metabolism to speed up. That's the only thing I can think of. Because the first couple of months I was working my ass off, I was actually TRYING to lose weight. I'd be limiting my calories, eating light stuff like chicken noodle soup, and drinking only water (except for beer). And I barely lost any weight. The last couple of months I've been drinking lots of sodas, and actually gorging heavily on fast food, doing things such as eating three double cheeseburgers and a large order of fries for lunch. And THAT'S when I ended up losing 15 pounds.

You know you watch too much tv when you read geezer's weight summary and think you understand some of it from what you heard on celebrity fit club.
