At this point in my life probably the skyscraper in New York. But 10-15 years in the future, I'd probably take the cottage.

I'm sure you'll find sexist men everywhere on the planet. Ignorance is global. Anyways, I'm all about the crazy nightlife and never sleeping. NY all the way. I'd be a pretty dull boy in a cottage.

Cottage. I prefer the wilds as opposed to the concrete jungle, despite my insane love for my own hometown, Berlin and Edinburgh.

Cottage in England. That appeals to me a lot more than New York. I love the countryside. Would be my dream to live in a wide-open field with lush greenery surrounding me and a river nearby.

English cottage. Because when the zombie uprising comes you'll be just another pigeon awaiting consumption by the zombies in a skyscraper. Besides you can't own a gun in NY, then again you can't own a gun in the UK either, but it'll be in the country know one will ever know.;)

There's the dream of becoming rich in New York, but you can either live the big life or end up in the middle class. If it's the latter, I'd rather spend my days in the cottage.

I'd take the cottage as long as it was relatively close to a large city. I love the countryside but I also do not like feeling isolated.

Sky scraper in New York, I would enjoy the view and the lights at night, not that I would go outside much though.

Please provide evidence of these extra freedoms (i.e. what can you do as an American that most other westerners can't)

It can't be a cottage or cabbin in the US? I hate big cities and being downtown but I don't want to live in England.

For me personally the only attractionof living in NY would the night life. Now that i'm in my thirties and have a family, night lifedoesn't register very highly anymore. Add to this the fact that England isa small country and you can live in the heart of the countryside and still be within 30 minutes train ride of a major city. So you could have all the perks of living in the English country side and still get the city night life. I'm sorry but, drinking Mojito's in some wanky New York bar isn't a scratch on relaxing in a proper English pub in front of a open fire, drinking real English ale with ya mates. But then I am getting old.

If i were married and older the cottage would be great. But for most people on this website are younger and probably not married making the cottage a bad place to be in that time of life lol.
