I have never been into clean shaving as it makes me look young, as a result I have been the proud owner of groomed stubble from the ages of 17-24. I have always said to myself that just once I would like to grow a full beard, even if it looks terrible , just for the satisfaction of having done it. I have been growing it since January the 1st and feel it has finally reached a length I deem worthy of "full beard" status. I love it!

My lady is not so keen. Her mother is not so keen. Everyone else seems to react really positively.

Now I never want to get rid of it, I feel more masculine, look more mature...plus as weird as it sounds....its quite fun to grow and maintain your face in a new and interesting way.

I shall endeavour to find a before and after photograph assuming I can find a camera to take the "after" shot. Also assuming there is any interest in this topic whatsoever.

SO OT.....Who are the beard growers among you??

How long??? Why??? Styled/shaggy???

How is it received by others??

Lastly a call to post pictures for those of you are brave/suitably hairy enough!!!

  • I read that title wrong, I thought we were forming an OT Marihuana Growers Association.
  • Photos or it didn't happen.

I just go from clean shaven to whatever it is that grows on my face in a cycle. I usually get a haircut and shave. Week pass and I get a poor's man Serpico look (really poor lol) and then I start again. Sometimes I like to go haircut + beard. I like that beard + no haircut + sweater + no sleep feeling the day of a test. Grrrrrrr!

Anyways, my grandparents always give me a hard time when I don't shave/cut my hair so I try to a least keep it manageable when I visit them.

As the beardmaster i feel i have a bit of expertise on this issue. I did the maintained stubble look for many years. Been full bearding for about 6 years now (yea thats right, before it was trendy). Used to shave it for job interviews and such, but eff it... now its a part of me. Take it or leave it.

At first the response was mostly negative, but like most amateur beard growers it was an unkempt bird's nest. Nowadays i get lots of compliments, and most of my friends are working on honing beards of their own.

Having a beard isnt much different from having hair, it needs to be maintained regularly and styled to fit you. Its a fine craft that requires alot of trial an error, assuming you want to look manly and distinguished vs crazy and homeless. I generally keep it relatively short (usually a half inch or shorter) and neatly trimmed. And yes, the men respect it, and the chicks dig it. Welcome to the club.

I've kept a full beard for a few years now which I keep trimmed down with an electric number 3.

Some like it, and others just don't mind or don't care.

Here's a bit of a side beard shot from almost a year ago (it's practically identical).

As promised in the OP here's a picture of mine.

Might need to lose some length soon...starting to look a little Amish.

I've had a steady beard for close to 8 years now. I'm finally starting to actually try and grow it fairly long though now. I invested in some beard oil to make it smoother, softer, and hopefully a little straighter. My beard hair is rough and brittle, so it doesn't grow like normal hair. The last time I really let it grow out was in November. It grew outward and looked like a nappy beard afro. Hopefully the oil and combing it will improve its appeal this time around.

I had recently gone 6 months without trimming any of it, mustache included. However, I do now keep it partially shaved.

thats a man beard, maybe its the captain artificially inflating the beard cred. But serious beard respect.

I wanna make some important points, first of all you gotta trim under the jaw, dont go straight jawline thats jersey douche beard, take notice how he shaves a bit under the jawline. If i had any criticism i would say maybe a little keep a little more beard on the cheek just to get a straighter line. But this is a great example of a manly as hell beard, and affords me the convenience of not needing to post my own pics. Thats basically my beard. I guarantee celldrax is plowing the ladies and intimidating the men with a quality beard like that.

I grew a beard when I was your age. Then I got bored with it and grew out of that phase of my life. Now I prefer to be clean shaven...so I look younger. I also stopped shaving with those expensive cartridge razors (had the Gillette Fusion Proglide...what a shitty razor) and have switched to wet shaving with a safety razor. Just bought 100 blades for $13.75. This will last me over two years and cost me less that 4 fusion proglide cartridges that would only last me 2 months and I now get a way better shave. I will never go back to shitty cartridge shaving again.

I did just shave two days ago and kept some hair on my chin to start a goatee as well as left my mustache alone. A goatee is the closest I will ever come to a full beard again. Some people are into that. I am not. I look at old pictures when I had one and think of a homeless person.

I used to keep mine fairly well-trimmed, but I've been letting it grow since mid-September. It's about two inches long under the chin, and I'm starting to get a Fu Manchu thing going with my mustache. I trim it with a scissors every once in a while to keep it evened out, but the biggest thing for me is combing it. As long as I do that it doesn't look to unkempt.

I keep mine trimmed, at about 5/8ths inch, and keep it away from my lips so no food will get stuck or anything. I shave my neck completely. The crease from under the chin to the neck is the line I use, beard above it, nothing below it. I also keep the beard on the underside of my chin trimmed, it gets really hot and irritating if I just let it grow (I live in Phoenix, Arizona, not the best beard weather during summer, but I live with it). It takes me about 3 weeks to grow it this far, then I start trimming. I shampoo it, and comb it when I get out of the shower. The combing feels amazing, and makes it look clean and straight. I've had it for about 18 months now, I shave it all off and start fresh about once a year (Shave on the last day of October for no shave November). I used to have a goatee, but the beard gets ALOT more attention from ladies, and it gets pretty comfortable once you've had it long enough. I like having it, and I feel naked the first few days after I shave it off.

Yeah its all about the comb. I hated it at first when it was shorter. It used to just curl the tips of the hair into my face and got really uncomfy. Now the hairs a bit longer it doesnt seem to cause any discomfort when I comb it.

As much as I would love to have a beardy sticky (that's a weird phrase) I don't think my peers would agree :(
