I'm listening to the complete morons on the Hill talking down to Oil Companies like they understand anything, when Chuck Shumer actually has the audacity to question Oil Companies on how much aid they're supplying to Burma. When the Oil Company execs show they've provided over 3 million in Aid already, this moron Chuck Shumer actually asks "Well, is that REALLY enough?"

WHAT? Our US government, these complete worthless empty vessels in Washington have only authorized 5.5 million in Aid to Burma so far. American citizens ALONE through PRIVATE CHARITIES have already given over 12.1 million.

And our US government actually has the ego to question Big Oil when THEY'RE THE ONES halting progress by pandering to special interests groups and lashing the hands of the Oil Companies essentially behind their backs?

Good god this government makes me so angry.

I don't know what's worse, the oil companies trying to convince us they aren't robbing us blind at the pump, or the representatives trying to pander to societies hate-on for "big oil."

let me guess.... a Pinto....

just kidding but the obvious truth is that fosil fuels are our future for at least another 20 years. We need to figure out how to make it last. Oil companies are going to rape us regardless until the whole system changes.

I'm not so sure. I mean those same jackasses are the ones capable of "defending" the public from oil companies and have done next to nothing for years. Consider this; various members of the US government has stated for years that they need to focus on finding a "reliable" source of oil and they need to lower their dependency on foriegn (read: Middle Eastern) oil, despite the fact Canada has the world's 2nd largest oil reserves (not sure if reseves is the right word).

Good form! Yeah, most people are too busy watching American Idol to see that our government typically causes more problems then they solve.

Seriously, my 4 year old nephew could do a better job then these clowns. Look at how Robert Byrd-Brain was bawling on the senate floor this week like a senile old coot. For gosh sakes, he's been in Washington since 1959! Not even mentioning the fact the guy was a robe-wearing Klan member.

Good lord we're so screwed.

Haha, you conservative libertarian folks are starting to convince me. Your government really does suck.

Actually I'm not totally convinced; I don't think all governments suck. Just yours :?

People are getting pissed and want answers. Not everyone can afford to drive a Chevy Tahoe. The least congress can do is make it look like they are trying to do something.

Yeah! Who do these politicans think they are? Gas should be 100 dollars a gallon so we can finally all be free. After all, that is the American dream that these evil liberals are trying to take away from us. The dream to cause an entire global economy to crumble so I can get rich.

WOOHOO go oil companies! Yeahhhhhh. Oil Companies, I'm rootin' for you! George Bush is the best president the country has ever had, and I love those commercials on television that the oil companies run trying to convince us that they're good for our economy.

AmyMizuno

Once again Amy, you just reveal your own level of just not getting it. Did I ever ONCE say "The oil companies aren't to blame"? No, I did not. They are, to a degree. I'm revealing the level of hypocricy in our big, bloated STUPID government by them hog-tying the hands of business on one side, and then asking why prices are so high on the other. It's simple economics of supply and demand, not to mention the dullards in Washington stop business from reaching progress every chance they get. It's like I'm hearing that speach from GoodFellas in my head every time someone poses a potential solution:

Oh, you wanna drill in ANWR? **** you, pay me.
Coal to Oil? **** you, pay me.
Nuclear Energy? **** you, pay me.

When's it all gonna end? Will Americans wake up when gas hits 10 bucks a gallon? How bout 15? Will 15 finally make us realise how badly we're taking it from both ends?

The conservative dogma is to blame government for every problem. Sorry, government isn't the problem. The solution is to manage fiscal policy the same way monetary policy is managed... very carefully.

There is a time for government to expand and a time for it to contract. There is a time for higher taxes and a time for lower taxes. The purpose of managing fiscal policy is to find a good balance between inflation and unemployment.

You and I agree on a lot of things, it's just that we're both kinda militant in our responses I feel largely due to our frustration. At the same time, by your opening statement I can counter with the comment that "The Liberal dogma is to praise the government for every problem", but I feel that arguement is irresponsible.

What I'm arguing as a whole, is that our Government is largely out of touch with reality. People in this country need to realise that largely, our politicians play to emotional responses in order to keep us "feeling" good without thinking. They're experts at plucking on the old heart-strings like a violin, and many of them repeatedly can play all of us better then a stratovarius.

You're correct that there is a time for government to grow and shrink. But largely, in recent memory it's been growing over and over like the Incredible Hulk with relatively no opposition on the Hill.

Think about what I said on emotional reactions of Americans. Most americans are hardworking, generous people who want to help our fellow man out of the goodness of our hearts, is it any wonder why crooked politicians would want to manipulate this power? An enormous amount of Americans think universal healthcare could actually work in this country. But when you think of it logically, do you REALLY want the government in charge of YOUR general health? For god's sake, name me a huge government social program that actually isn't a complete and utter failure anymore, please.

Social Security? Largely a failed mechanism. I seriously doubt I'll see a dime from this failed pipe-dream in the future. Think about it, if social Security had been a voluntary program and not a government mandate it wouldn't even have gotten off the ground.

Medicare? It's pretty much broke for all intents and puroses.
