I mean do you always eat with your elbows on the table/restaurant? Maybe I'm old fashion but its consider rude to do so whenever I see this happening more and more nowadays when I go to restaurants eating while having your elbows on the table is not so gentlemen or being a lady.

Yeah yeah, it's different in different countries. The English-derived style we use as an etiquette basis here in America. There gentlemen and ladies sat with (fairly) straight backs at the dinner table. Elbows on the table mean you are probably slouching over the table, hunched over your plate and they associate that with someone low-class, no manners training is how we known in America. I don't think it's a thing any more...at least here in the U.S. Most of my friends/few family members do it all the time, no one thinks it's rude but I still do.

Does this ever bother you all?

Oh yeah, super rude. I usually let it go because it's not worth pointing out, but I'm definitely going to think less of you if you put your elbows on the table.

Manners are for the most part pretty simple: chew with your mouth closed, elbows off the table, say "please" and "thank you", and so on. I don't care if you use the wrong silverware because that's some next-level anal-retentiveness, but c'mon you gotta put in minimal effort at the dining room table.

I never eat at a dining table. Usually don't hold the knife in my right hand either.

Rarely eat at the dinner table with others. Half the time I'm standing up.

I've never really understood why it's considered bad manners and it's something I don't think about nor care if people do it or not.

I don't think about it.

Comfort is top priority. To heck with manners.

Weird old gen standards that don't matter at all.

Some of the things that are considered to be bad manners are completely ridiculous, and the only reason why some people still care about or pay attention to them is because it's been etched in their minds at a young age. Now, saying "please" or "thank you" is just common sense, but elbows on the table is just a matter of being comfortable. There's nothing about it that should make anyone feel uneasy. It's just some arbitrary thing that someone came up with in order to show superiority over other social classes, and everyone followed suit.

My 2 cents.

I don't really think about it honestly. Same with hats at the dinner table, I don't really care, because the Hats off rule was typically done for religious reasons, and we purposefully don't do religion in our house. The one thing I'm hard nosed on is phones at the table. If you're sharing a prepared meal with someone, the bear minimum I expect is to give the people at the table the time of day and not throw all attention to a cell phone.

Yea, generally don't care much as not exactly from aristocratic stock. Find this with most Scottish folk. We are abit simple.

What constitutes as "bad manners" differs from culture to culture.

Finishing a meal can be considered rude in certain places, while complimentary in others.

It's not just an American thing. Growing up, even at home my parents would tell us to not put the elbows on the table. I personally couldn't give a **** about it. My only concerns on the table are hygiene related.

My grandmother used to really get annoyed if the bread was upside down. She used to say it was very disrespectful because no one in the family put food on the table by laying on their backs. As in, there are no whores in the family. Of course, I would put the bread upside down frequently just for the moralist speech.

I was taught as a kid that elbows on the table was bad manners. As an adult, I find that rule silly and impractical.

If I'm having a meal with a boss or some other formal thing, I make sure not to do so unless others do first (which they usually do, I find). But otherwise, I'm very happy to let this dumb rule die, as it should.

That's what I think too! Can't believe they asked me to leave after I let er rip at the dinner table.

I find myself doing it at times. I guess it depends on how comfortable I feel with the company at present. If I'm having dinner with my friends or family (which is pretty much always the case), I don't concern myself with such formalities. And generally don't expect others to do it either. There are much better ways to determine one's politeness than the way they place their elbows on the table.

I'll do it from time to time. Depends though. Never while eating. Either before or after finishing a meal.

Who eats with their elbows on the table. Seems an odd way to eat.

Totally this. Sometimes I'm light on the cellphones when we are all just waiting for dinner to be served, I expect all phones turn off until dinner is over. Like I said, I'm still old fashion on no elbows but nowadays, I don't really say anything, it just irks me when I see someone does it.

I can let it slide and try not to think about it, but my mind will say what about you and how you eat too. Oh well, its a new generation and probably in the next few decades, manners on the table will be forgotten😔

I used to think about it, but now don't really care. I never really cared too much about dining etiquette. Be comfortable when you eat. You'll probably digest better.

My mom used to tell me to not do it and it would annoy the hell out of me. When I eat food I just wanna enjoy my time. I don't want to stress over that kind of stuff.

It's funny because I stopped eating with my parents around my teenage years. I think that's when I stopped caring less and less about that kind of stuff.

Play to the room, thankfully my audiences don't care. But maybe now that schools are removing critical thinking from the curriculum they can bring back finishing schools.

Anyhow, no telling what rigid rules people will judge others by...

This was a nice movie. Thanks. Love the soft, high contrast look of it and the long, still takes. Love the odd paring of the Christina Richie and Vincent Gallo characters, the latter of whom I'd oddly never seen in anything before this.
