For ants I use those gel poison things. They take the poison back to their home and poison everyone.duxupYou monster! The ant children are minding their business and you kill them. You could be considered a terrorist.
I never leave out food,i always put it away in a container and i rinse the dishes off right away. But they still come on in :evil:Don't leave out food.

How far are you going with the Raid? I once had a spider colony that had snuck into my room. I freaking sprayed that room down like I was creating a second Long Island Reactor meltdown and then I didn't enter the room for a few days. I also took extra care to spray any cracks or entrances in which they could be getting in. By doing that I made sure that no more would enter my room. I've never had a problem with spiders since.Luncbox1
Oh God I would probably never go back in the room again.

eh. I was fine after, so no harm done. :P
Luckily we don't have Cockroaches here. . . but I moved into my brother's old room in the basement this winter and the bugs are just coming out now. The spiders creep me out, but at least they pretty much stay on their webs. It's the sow bugs that really get my skin crawling. They're only about 1cm long but they are disgusting!
Why did I even look up pictures of it? I will not sleep well tonight.
That is at least 34 too many legs for me to consider it anything but disgusting.
In short: Yeah, RAID sounds like a good idea. Will it be at all harmful to my cat in any way? I'm not planning on spraying her in the face with it or anything, but afterwards if she sniffs where I had sprayed it a few hours later will the fumes harm her?
so its summer time, and tis the season when pests like spiders, cock roaches and ants like to walk into your home like they own the place.I am a pretty clean person,i scrub down my apartment at least once a week or so so I don't think that is the reason why they keep coming on in.I also spray around the apartment with Raid and Home Defense but those 2 don't seem to be working very well for me this year as the ants come in a day or 2 after i spray. Its becoming to be a real tiring chore trying to keep them out,so I was wondering. What type of sprays or tools do u use to keep these insects out?teh_destroyer
Usually windows will have cracks or little holes on them and thats how they can get in, also the holes made for the phone and cable tv lines into your apartment may also be entrances for bugs, try taping them up or using some sort of putty to plug them.

The worst bug I have seen in a basement, though, was at my friends house when we saw a centipede. We never saw another one again in anyone's house, so we have no clue where this guy came from.

Maybe try and keep your cat out of the room for about a week, just to be safe. When I sprayed my room to hell and back I said "No, Kitty! If you go in there you will DIE! STAY OUT if you value your life!!!"

i guess i should mention that they are coming in from underneath the house, and come in through some very small cracks/holes in a wooded area next to my bed.I get centipedes in my house sometimes but their not those exotic, tropical ones you saw. I have, how should I saw it, domesticated ones. Their just gray and creepy as hell. Luckily any bug I get in my house stays in the basement where I hang out all day. So I know when I go upstairs to sleep there aren't any creepy crawlers there.

bleach,i remember putting that on ant hills outside the house when i was a kid.Always had fun with that :P.The only problem I have with, in general, is ants, and that case, beyond avoiding to keep food or liquids out in the open, I just use some bleach on them.

Aw man, that's going to be tough. She insists on sleeping on my pillow every night, and if she can't get in she'll scratch at the door. U guess it's better than having her harmed, though, and also better than sleeping with a cat AND a few roque insects. Maybe I'll spray it when we're at camp for a week, that way she won't even be home. Thanks for the help *^_^*

The one we saw was also sort-of domestic, this one is just one I found on Google :) The one we saw was red though, and this was the closest match I could find. I do not envy you living in a place that has centipedes!
There is only one tried and true solution: Let's all spend the summer in Hawaii!
I respect their space and they respect mine. All I have to do is politely ask them to leave while I take a shower, because that is down right creepy.SnipeyMcSnipe
I agree.. same when you want to go to the toilet. I dont have many bug problems.. have a few pet spiders around, but they know the deal.. they can stay in the same spot and its fine.. but if they move around then thats the end of them.

That sounds pretty sad actually. :(
